The Unofficial Offical 365 Guidelines Thread
OK everyone! A new year and lots of new people has determined that we should put some general "guidelines" here on the 365 so that everyone has an understanding of how this works!
What / When / How to Shoot: The intent is for you to take a picture every day, even if you don't have time to process/post them on the same day. Some people take and process a photo and post it the same day, while others take photos each day and process them a few times a week.
You can post one or more of that day's photos. There are no hard and fast rules here - it's whatever works for you. This is not a strict forum and it has not got strict rules per se. It's a place to grow and challenge yourself, so use whatever system works for you. Use whatever camera you have at the time if you wish also, your DSLR, point and shoot, camera phone, even your Ipad. Anything that has a camera will do if you need it.
If you feel that you can't commit to taking a photo every day, we now have a 52 week forum. You take one of more photos a week and post one or more on a project thread there. 52 Projects - Photo a Week
Green Arrows: Threads that are for everyone/participants to post on are now marked with a green arrow. Please note, participants may need to read the instructions at the beginning of each thread as you may need to be added to a list. These threads are fun things like "Through the Rearview Mirror", the "Alphabet Game" and "Framing the World"... Feel free to suggest threads on the board, or to one of the mods if you have an idea for a forum thread or project!
Critiques: This particular part of the forum is critique-free unless specifically asked for by the original poster. We try to have a really nice stress-free "family" environment here, a "happy place" if you will, for showcasing a part of our lives over the year... If you would like critique, however, feel free to ask!
Comments: If someone takes the time to comment on your thread, please return the favor and comment on something of theirs. It doesn't have to be every day, but every once in a while it is nice, as a lot of people spend a lot of time on these projects and also spend a lot of time commenting on others projects. If you do not reciprocate comments, at least occasionally, a moderator will beat you! JK
Also, if you see an image you particularly like on someone's thread - award it some karma. Everyone likes to be appreciated.
Thread Titles: A moderator can change the title of your thread at any time if you change your mind at a later date from your original thread title. Just send one of us a PM.
Inspiration: If you feel like you are struggling or lacking in inspiration, start a "go-to" list. Start writing down things you can photograph as you think of them, so that if you are "stuck" you have a list to jog your memory, or help if you think "there's nothing to shoot". It could be a list with things as simple as "carpet" or "books" to things such as "water drop refractions" or "painting with a laser pointer", or "your pets or kids," anything that helps you get a shot and not give up. Abstracts and closeups also make for fun shots if you need to grab a shot quick. The biggest part of this is to have fun and not treat it like a chore.
