Thank you Miranda Like you I love the history of these places. When close to them their age is a tangible feeling

The guy on the bench (#1) is just great.
Thanks Wolf, and thank you for the K

Regarding the fellow on the bench, he was waiting for a train on the station platform. That's the first time I've come across transparent rubbish containers. My first thought was "it's a bit odd displaying your garbage Aka Tracey Emin stylee".

Then I realised it was an anti terrorist measure, so no one could hide bombs in there

I've been a bit busy today so had to grab a couple of shots where I could.

Fish and Finch

Love the texture on the wood, (in the 'fish' pic), Tony.

Thank you Wolf I can't seem to stop HDRing everything at the moment.

So as I'm stuck inside again, here's a couple of normal shots.

This first one is a favourite shot of the wedding photographers, normally with a bible as the BG.

The Ring

I was searching through the house looking for something that I'd "Put in a safe place where I'd know where to find it", when I came across this box. I had no recollection of having seen it before. And was quite amazed when opening it to read the scribbled note on a scrap of paper inside.

It was note from my Mum to my Dad, both long since dead, sadly.

It sent a shiver down my spine on reading it, the item on the left is a buttoner, used when soldiers polish their buttons, to keep them away from the material. It belonged to my grandfather who died, aged early twenties, in the trenches in the first world war.

Thank you Miranda, it was an amazing thing to come across I showed it to my 3 children,( all giants now, but still kids to me ) and though two showed a casual interest, only the one showed as much awe as I felt, so I rekon there's were it will be heading when I turn up me toes

Wow, your blog pictures are so very interesting! I fell in love with the kingfisher images. And I'm a 'family history' buff as well - I LOVE the snuff box and coin. What's the other thing in that picture?

Thank you Sis The other thing belonged to my grandfather who died in his early twenties in the trenches in Ypres during the first world war.

It's called a collar buttoner. It serves two purposes. The first to help button the high military collars they wore at the time, and the other, when cleaning the buttons, to keep them away from the material, so as not to mark their uniforms

I went to Ely today, they have a large Cathedral and a large cannon in front of it.

The cannon is Russian and was captured in the Crimean war, it was presented to Ely by Queen Victoria in 1860 to mark the creation of the Ely rifle volunteers.

Just out of shot were this mother Mallard and her two ducklings. They actually breed on the large expanse of grass, people put water and food out for them.

Into the centre, I came across this busker, an amiable fellow who would'nt stop posing for me, when really I wanted a few mid tune shots full of artistic agnst and feeling

Another picky photographer then

On the way home this scruffy boat yard, next to the railway line caught my attention.
