Description: The most compact and lightest in the history of fast zoom lenses. Thanks to the revolutionary downsizing "XR" technology employed by Tamron in the development of high-power zoom lenses such as the 28-200mm and 28-300mm, the dramatic compactness that makes this lens the world's smallest and lightest is achieved. Its compactness makes it look and feel like an ordinary standard zoom lens, yet the versatility that a fast constant maximum aperture offers will definitely reshape your photographic horizons.

Pros: Sharp, light, small
Cons: Slow AF in low light

The Tamron 28-75 f2.8 is a lens that has many great reviews. this swayed me to buy one (over the Canon equivalent). In use it's sharp, small and well balanced on my 20D. the constant f2.8 aperture is great however it's only let down by slowish AF performance in low light.

This lens now sits in my bag as a backup to my 24-105 f4L IS which is better in every aspect other than max aperture.

The focal length is pretty nice although it does lack a feww mm at the wide end.

All in all a very nice lens though especially if you are on a budget.

Pros: light, fast , sharp, modest price , DX and FF use
Cons: non proffesion tuch, plastic construction, not sealed for dust !!

I used to have that lens, it was a great sharp (8 from 10) , light and great colors .
What i didn't like was the construction of the lens, i had it 3+ years and across the time i saw dust inside the glass (what i didnt see in Nikon lens 80-200).

Pros: Very sharp, beautiful bokeh with 5D, very affordable
Cons: Not as well sealed as could be

With full-frame camera, I've got no overall complaint with this lens - for half (or was it one third?) of what the Canon version cost, this has been well worth it. Its still my most used lens, with two L lenses also in my bag. Bought it after tech review comparison with Canon , Tamron showed almost as sharp at some points and sharper in others. I've had several Tamron lenses and generally wouldn't buy others - but this one stands out.

Pros: Super sharp at f4 and above on FX camera, extremely affordable
Cons: Not the same build quality as Nikon

I own a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 that I use on a D-300. After purchasing a D-700 I needed a fast short zoom for low natural light images. I looked at the 24-70 Nikon lens, but they were in short supply and very expensive. After comparing test on line between the Nikon and Tamron lens, I opted to give the Tamron lens a try (especially based on my experience with the 17-50 DX format). The lens is smaller and lighter than the 24-70 and is a breeze to carry. It has outstanding image quality and I find the build quality very acceptable. I was fortunate to order mine as the model with a built-in motor was coming out, it has worked like a charm and I find it quick and accurate.

Don't get me wrong, if given the choice of a Nikon 24-70 vs. this lens for the same price, I would always take the Nikon. But if you are looking for an affordable alternative/backup lens, this one I have no problem recommending.

Pros: Lightweight, Compact, Very Sharp, Price
Cons: Slow AF in low light, Noisy AF, Feels cheap compared to other lenses

Was looking for a fast zoom for situations when switching between primes wouldn't work and this fit the bill perfect. My copy produces very sharp images and for the price difference between it and Nikon's equivalent the Tamron wins by a long shot.

Pros: Sharp, light, fast
Cons: Poor autofocus in low light

I've had this lens for about two weeks. I love it. Nice all around high-quality lens for a price that beats the heck out of the Canon lens. Many call it a "walkabout" lens. I will be using it for portrait work too. Works great on a crop sensor.

It does not autofocus well in very low light, but that's pretty common. Don't think it can be beat for the price.
