Description: • Bright wide angle lens with 2x zoom
• Aspherical Lens elements for excellent quality
• Splash Proof Pro lens

The ZUIKO DIGITAL 11-22mm (35mm equivalent focal length: 22-44mm) is perfect for capturing sweeping landscapes or covering larger city scenes. High quality lenses, aspherical elements and coatings ensure this wide angle addition to the Olympus E-System lens range delivers the excellent quality professionals require and expect.

This bright, 2x wide angle zoom lens has a low starting focal length of 11mm, giving it wide angle photography options offered by few lenses used in digital SLR systems.

Pros: Quality and FoV
Cons: Slightly odd range

This was my mainstay lens from Jan 2006 to Feb 2007, now largely replaced by the 7-14.
This lens is capable of stunning results, and is fine as a walkabout lens for a landscaper - distortion is minimal, sharpness is superb, practicality excellent. What it does, it does superbly. The only question mark, for me, is the fact it only goes down to 11mm (22mm effective). I'd like to see it a bit wider than that, hence 9/10 rather than the full ten, which optically and mechanically it deserves.

I've abused mine horribly, and it has never faltered, which is nice.

Pros: compact, great optics
Cons: it's not the 7-14

This lens is a middle child. It's not as wide as the 7-14, but it's also much smaller and less expensive. It's not as long as the 14-54, but it's considerably wider and optically better. I have largely replaced it with the 7-14, but it lives in the camera bag with my E-510 just the same.

As a middle child, the 11-22 gives benefits that both its siblings lack. It's wide enough to create some sweeping vistas and interesting perspective distortions, but not wide enough to create the challenges that a photographer faces with the 7-14. It doesn't have the long range of the 14-54, but its 22mm focal length is a true "normal" for 4/3 and the 2x zoom gives it better optical qualities. In fact, at 22mm it shows no optical distortions, performance that would make a prime lens proud.

If you like wide angle lenses but can't justify the cost and size of the specialist 7-14, or want a modern approach to a bag full of primes, this could be the best lens in the system. The 11-22 is one of two lenses that led to the disuse of my 14-54; when combined with the 50mm f/2 macro, it creates a powerful kit.
