Pros: Effectively the 24-70 for DX users, sharp, works on FX from 26mm on, fast focusing
Cons: Flare performance sucks, zoom ring is awkward to use on some bodies, suspect alignment on some samples

This is the 24-70mm f/2.8 equivalent for DX users.

If you need a "professional" mid-range zoom for your DX camera, this is the lens to get. Fairly well-constructed, fast-focusing, good color and contrast under most conditions, there's really not much more to ask for.

The lens sucks when you point it at light sources; it reacts less favorably to flare than other pro Nikkors (compare this to a clean 17-35mm f/2.8 ), and as this lens predates the Nano coating it's especially apparent in certain conditions, with ghosting and all that fun stuff.

The lens works on FX from 26mm on, so you can use it in a pinch on FX bodies.

The zoom ring is placed rather far back, which means that it can be difficult to operate on certain camera bodies where the front area around the lens mount gets rather cramped.

I've seen some suspect alignment on some samples, including one that had good center sharpness but terrible corners even stopped down. Overall, the construction is pretty good, but check your alignment carefully.
