Pros: dual memory card slots, built-in speedlight, dual command dials, ability to save 2 user settings for commonly used shooting scenarios
Cons: no flip-out display, no 30fps on HD video, autofocus goes in and out in liveview mode.

I sold my D3000 to get this one. This camera is as close as you can get to a pro series.

Pros: Build Quality,Very fast autofocus, dual sd card slots
Cons: None to speak of as yet

Upgraded from my D40x to this D7k (body only) best thing I have done as you can really notice the improvement. I really feel that I can now explore photography to its fullest extent as I now have all the tools to do the job! the rest is now down to me.
I cant see the point of the video mode as I have always felt that if I want to take video I will use a dedicated video camera. I purchased this DSLR to take photographs not video......all I can say in closing is I know that if you buy this d7k you will not regret it for a long time.
The price for body only was £849 not $ as above

Pros: Overall handling, speed, image quality, U modes, etc...
Cons: Buffer size, ISO button

I got the D7000 kit (with 18-105) lens on November 1 (one of the first cameras in Canada). I had shot Olympus for about 5 years previous, but had decided to make the switch to Nikon when they (sort of) announced the (sort of) discontinuation of the 4/3 line.

I had some old manual lenses which I wanted to use, so the AI support was very handy.

Long story short, I am very happy with it. I can see a large step up in image quality between this camera and my old Olympus ones (to be fair, this one is 2 years newer than the newest Olympus camera I owned; I am sure the E-5 would hold up much better than the ones I had). I can push the shadows much more, without getting a bunch of noise. The viewfinder is much nicer (larger and brighter). The AF is much more sensitive (I can shoot in a dim room and still get an AF lock). The list goes on and on.

There are very few things that I don't like about it. The placement of the ISO button is one annoyance, but Easy ISO helps this to a large extend (in A mode the rear dial adjusts ISO; in S mode the front dial adjusts it; it is only in M mode that I need to adjust it with the button). The buffer size could be a bit better (when shooting 14 bit raw, I get 9 shots). However, given the overall handling, price / performance ratio, etc, I am willing to live with these minor issues. The U1 / U2 modes are very nice, and I use them almost exclusively (U1 is set up as A mode, U2 as M mode); when I start a shoot I just twist the dial between modes to reset to a known good state.

I highly recommend this camera for shooters who have a good understanding of how cameras work. I am not sure that this would be a good camera for new SLR users, unless you are willing to invest the time and energy in learning how to shoot. This is *not* a point and shoot replacement, and if you buy it as such, you will be disappointed.

Pros: Live view, wired remote
Cons: Its probably just me.

I moved up from my D70 and am very happy. I purchased some lenses and got some discounts from Ritz/Wolf so I don't understand what the purchase price was.

Pros: 39 focus points, dual SD card slots, 16.2 MP, weather sealing, etc
Cons: N/A

I bought this camera thru an on-line auction run by a local newspaper. I have a D80 and a D90, and I was not looking to upgrade, but this camera is "awesome". The camera included the 18-105 lens, which I sold, so that made the price for the camera lower. I still have a lot to learn about all the functions, so it may be a while before I need a new camera. I hope to focus (pun intended) on more pro lenses to take full advantage of the D7K.

Pros: Dual Slots, easy Live VIew, VIdeo
Cons: Bracket is only 3 shots

I am a bit different than the others above. I have a D700 and bought this as a light weight walkaround backup. I found during the day and early evening it rocks. I took a trip and used this body more than my D700. I put a 500mm on it and a 1.7 and you get an effective 700 then you get the crop factor on top. It focused like a charm. It is about one stop wore in low light than the D700 but other than that and the three shot bracket max there is no real issues. It does not have a sync flash input so you have to use a shoe and attach there. It is not a big deal but a backup when you are using wireless transmitters is alway good in the studio.

Overall a great camera and until they announce the D800 or D4 I will stick with this body.

Pros: Low light goodness! Dual SD slots; 1080p HD movie
Cons: Only 3 shots on bracket (but that can be worked around); focus motor noise in movie function

I have a D300 which I really like. It's an awesome camera and does fairly decently with low light up to about ISO 3200. My son was getting married in July and a new grandchild is arriving in late October so I thought it would be nice to have a camera with better low light ability. I thought about a D700 but by the time I had made up my mind they were unavailable in Canada - and it was a bit pricey. I did some research on the D7000 and decided to try it out. Oh my gosh! The low light goodness in this camera is unbelievable; especially, if you're coming from a D80 (former camera) or D300. I took the camera to the rehearsal and got excellent photos between 6000 and 9000 ISO. Sure, they show some grain but still they are completely usable photos. I've used the movie function a bit with my grandson. It works well but use manual focus otherwise you hear the focus motor. I'd like to get an external mic and see if that would work better with the autofocus on.

Pros: Amazing low light abilities, great dynamic range, focusing options that are outstanding, great detail - even in the dark areas.
Cons: Too small and light (But the grip fixes that problem) Considered a "mid-level" enthusiast camera yet it outperforms pro cameras I've owned. Go figure!

Simply amazing! Late night football games, under the worst lighting conditions, are absolutely no problem with the D7000. You would be hard-pressed to find worse shooting conditions than High School football, at a small school, with crap for lights, and fog hanging around... Focus issues? No way!; ISO performance? Amazing! Not enough buffer? Hogwash! If you can get it in 10 frames, you'll never get it! wait a few seconds and try again!

I make a fair amount of money taking photographs and I find this camera to be the perfect tool. That makes the D7000 a professional camera!!!

Pros: Excellent low light and night shot camera.
Cons: Yet to identify them.

I enjoy shooting low light and night shots and was looking for a camera with a good low light response.
I have Nikon D80 & D90 cameras and the D7000 seemed like a natural jump for low light shooting; Plus with basically all the controls in the same locations it makes moving between cameras much easier.
The camera has been everything I hoped for. I use the the battery pack and hand straps on all three of these cameras which makes the camera fit better in your hand.

Pros: What can I say. Amazing DX camera. nikons best in my opinion
Cons: Buffer size can be a pain...or the lack thereof

I purchased this a an upgrade for my D300. And how it was!! Still have the 300 as backup.

This camera is pure bliss and pleasure. If you think of getting one, just go and buy it!

Pros:
Cons:

I have been using my D5000 for travel photography for the last couple of years. I have an opportunity to purchase the D700 recently refurbished by Nikon. I would consider this an upgrade - what do you think.
