Pros:
Pretty darn sharp
Cons:
Plastic
This lens came with my 60D purchased in December 2010. I immediately took it off the camera and put it into a box, using my "L" glass instead. I mean, "L" anything has got to be better than a kit anything, right? Took it out of the box one day on a fluke and used it as a walk-around the park with the kids lens...much lighter than 70x200 f2.8 or even the 24 x 70. It was not only a great all purpose walk-around, I got some really, really sharp stuff even on Idiot Mode.
I've read great review since then on this and while I don't think I'd run down to the store and buy one of these as my first lens (it still isnt' the one I reach for most often)...I would recommend it as a great 'take one down to the beach on vacation' lens. It's wide enough at 18mm to get some good group stuff and with an effective range on the small sensor Canons at about 200mm, it's got enough reach for much of what you would need.
