Description:

The highest resolution sensor ever to be used in an EOS 16.7 Megapixel, Full Frame CMOS Sensor with DIGIC II Image Processor Canon's newly developed, 16.7 megapixel full Size CMOS sensor captures more pixels faster, for no-compromise high-resolution photography. With a recorded image size of 4992 x 3328 pixels, and low noise levels comparable to the EOS-1D Mark II, the EOS-1Ds Mark II can create images large enough for almost any purpose, whether on location or in the studio. With ISO ratings of 50-3200, there's almost nowhere this sensor won't perform. As with its predecessor, the EOS-1Ds Mark II's sensor is full frame, meaning no focal length conversion factor-lenses will have the same angle of view as they would on a 35mm camera. With RAW plus four JPEG file sizes available, from 16.7 megapixels down to 4.2 megapixels, the EOS-1Ds MARK II can be adjusted to conserve space on memory cards if large images are not the priority of the shoot.

Pros: resolution,100%view finder,build quality,versatility,joy of using,how it feels in my hands,full frame sensor,5fps,battery life
Cons: none

this camera is all i had hoped it would be,and so much more.the look and feel in my hands(powerful),the beauty of a 100% view finder(such a crisp clear view),the ISO and shutter speed ranges, the ability to store images in both RAW and large JPEG formats simultaneously,to both cards if one so desires,or use either the CF card or SD card as the primary storage and the other as a backup.this camera is suprisingly easy to use.i spent several hours the first day the camera arrived to get the basic mechanics understood, and then i was off and shooting.i keep the camera in manual mode, still use AWB for now,and have found this camera very intuitive (and this is coming from a Canon Digital Rebel),and i have had no problems with the transition.I put an 8gb extreme IV CF card, and a 4gb HCSD card in,which gives me enough potential pictures.as far as image quality, with either the 24-105 ,100 mm macro,or the 600 mm f4,simply amazing.and i do not care if Canon comes out with an 1Ds mark III this fall.i have this camera now, taking pictures and learning and enjoying everyday.one either just has to go for it,or continue to wait for the next "big" thing.i am so happy with this camera, and i do not think anyone whom purchases this beast will be dissatified.take the quantum leap to the ultimate small format camera.every morning when i wake up and grab this camera,it just makes me smile.by the way, battery life is amazing.

Pros: Body heft
Cons: Write times

I purchased this camera shortly after it came out, and it has been a trusted member of the family for many years now. I still don't see much of a reason to upgrade it, although I do wish that it had automatic sensor cleaning--the most glaring issue with expensive DSLRs, in my opinion.
