Not sure what this beetle is, but I've got a few photos of it both htis year and last- always give a striking pose and colors when climbing towards edge of leaves
just wanted to further comment that this was taken with a lensbaby double glass lens, with wide angle lens attachment and a #10 close up lens all stacked together-

thanks- I've got some other really bizzarre looking bugs I captured last week too- they look like they're from mars or out of a bad japanese horror movie from the 1970's lol- I've got to process them though- thanks for commenting

Great color... Great "selective focus". Nice photo. Care to share any tricks on photographing insects? I'm sure they don't just pose for you...

thanks Broc- these particular beetles don't move real fast, nor are they easily scared off- I can actually grab the milkweed plant and move the leaf around to get the pose I want- although on this photo- I didn't have to- I just waited till it crawled to the edge and snapped a photo just as it was coming over the edge. I used the lensbaby with the 10X closeup, but probably should have used the 4X instead to get just a little more in focus- the 10X is Very shallow depth of field, but I still liked the shot
