OK, I'll start with disclaimers:
1. I was not in charge of how the shoot was going to be done. Mostly because the church (a cathredral) had to be booked for a photoshoot, and that was supposed to be "1st" since they had two children that they wanted in the picture as well. So during the most daylight I had to shoot indoors. *sic* 2. The lighting inside of the church was mad. They had major flood lights, casting shadows everywhere. I would not have been able to "kill" any shadows, so I worked with the knowledge that I would have shadows, wether I caused them myself or not. 3. The sun set at 4 PM, but it was a bit of a haze and cloudy (I did get some "sun" shining through the clouds though), so it's pretty flat light. We started shooting outdoors at about 2.30-ish and for an hour, in -15°C (that's about 5°F). *brrr* 4. When I was editing the images I've been doing that on an old monitor, since my "regular" monitor broke down. I have no clue how the images looks in "real life". So they might look odd to you, when they look decent to me. I need to send some samples to the lab before I do any serious printing, that's for sure. 5. Well, I'm still a beginner, so I see lots of things I did wrong after the fact, so don't kill me completely, but also give suggestions on things I might be able to improve (with these disclaimers in mind), both photographically and in post processing. Always love seeing your work. Thanks. In the #7 and #8 outdoor shots, which are nicely exposed, the skin tones seem a tad too magenta too me.

No wonder you were nervous , those conditions look a nightmare .
Number 8 Would like to have seen with a tiny bit less shallow DOF *but thats just a personal preference . All in all I think you did an amazing job , especially in those conditions . Well done and have a Karma for a job well done. |

I don't know anything about weddings, but I'd say you did very well with the shadows and exposures given the conditions you describe.

Great job. Extremely well-exposed too. What are you shooting with? What lenses are being used inside the church?

What you you scared about? Looks pretty professional to me. She is better looking than he is, but I'm kind of glad I think that way. Interesting shots on the outdoor ones. Must have been odd to have the bridal dress dragged through the icy snow. Looks pretty though. Of all of them, I like the first one the best though. You did really good on that shot to me.

Thank you everyone!!!
JDArt, yeah I think they might be a bit too magenta. Thanks for helping me! ![]() dc2, Thank you for the nice words and the Karma point! I had another spot planned for #8, but it was freezing cold and we really didn't have time to scout too much for that shot, so I took it when I had the chance. I had wanted more distance between them, so you really can tell he's admiring her from a distance. I also have another shot with him in focus and her out of focus. cedric_r, Thank you!! Yeah it was a challenge for sure. I guess every shoot is a challenge in a way. But tricky light is always more challenging in the winter than in the summer. Jim, The shots inside the church was done with my Canon 20-35/2.8 L and Tamron 28-75/2.8 (on one body each, two Canon 350D's). Outdoors I also used my fun Canon 80-200/2.8 L. Loooove the short DOF it gives. Mr. Pickles, Thank you!! I was scared about EVERYTHING! I always am. The bride sure had some magical hair, I really envy her. It shows best outdoors when it almost glows. She was such a trooper outdoors, her nose was red, her hands was red, but she didn't complain a second! The guy was freezing terrible too, but didn't complain either. But he was suffering much more than her, it shows in some images that I didn't post, where his smile really is "frozen" in place. ![]() |

CI Photography, LOL!!! It's actually not that bad... I had a ground sheet with me and a white towel, so he sat on a that (it was double folded too).
