Nice edit, Mark, but a totally different concept that Kev's. I prefer the original.
I'm a bit surprised that you modified Kev's picture without requesting permission. Or is that what his "ok lads do your worst" was all about? I hope so, because I've been on sites where any picture posted is considered to be fair game, and didn't find that practice endearing. |

You made a judgement call on what is appropriate. This issue is VERY subjective, and unless there are rules that say otherwise with a site, or with a poster (like you did in yoursig),one should not be offended if their jpg gets tweeked. You think it is wrong. I don't. So who is right? This is very subjective, to be sure. But don't worry, I won't retouch any of your posted images, as you have stated your desires, and I respect that. I've posted a few of mine a few times, and anyone is welcome to tweek them anytime, as I will never post an image on a public forum that I don't want reproduced, or tweeked by other people. |

I took Kev's comment as a invitation to edit.
Maybe I misunderstood. Editing others pics happens here regularly, in many topic areas, even to my own images. Not sure why the fuss. I regularly send my work to other photographers to get their spin on it. It'll come back with a different border, color tone or some selective artwork applied. I don't feel the least bit threatened by someone tweaking one of my images. It helps me see what they see. |

Mark posted a very nicely edited image. I would prefer something more in the vein of the original, perhaps just a bit sharper, but that's just my opinion. I really dig the color in the kev's picture. It's been my experience that good color tones make for great monochromatic and duotone conversions.
I am curious as to what method Mark used for the conversion to sepia. I prefer gradient maps and feel they offer much more control than the duotone dialog in Photoshop. As far as editing others' images, though some don't mind, I am of the opinion that unless specifically asked to, editing and reposting is something better conducted through a PM. I personally hate it it when someone edits my images. I'd rather you tell me what the image needs, and allow me to work it out myself. Anyway, that is one cool picture, kev. Nice job. |
