Default Kerri & Michael's Wedding (5D MKIII)

I'm trying to catch up a bit with posting from recent weddings... this one is from early May. It rained on and off, but in between was really sunny. Evening was lovely - until it rained again, lol.

The hotel room the bride got ready in was THE most chaotic, crampled and messy I've seen in over 150 weddings. I had to get the hotel to open another room so I could take the dress and shoes somewhere reasonably tidy!

Anyway! Comments always welcome.

1. Bride, her mum and chief bridesmaid were kept nice n relaxed by yours truly...

2. Groom waited with his mum (bless!)

3. Bride teared up as she came down the aisle...

4. The incredible levitating boy!

5. The children ran amok (in a nice way!)

6.

7. 40 guests are being me taking photos at this point....

8.

9. This and last photo were in a little courtyard area that the venue had kindly left filled with black bags full of rubbish...another job for yours truly

10. I love evening light...

11.

12.

13.

14. Last one:

Thanks for looking, Alex .

lovely set
also interesting how number 14 the flash has not overpowered the room in a dark scene
at f2.8 & 1/15
did you adjust the output at all?

Thanks for commenting

All the dance shots have two 580 ex's on lightstands on the extreme sides of the dancefloor (at about the height I can reach, and I'm 6'2") and are controlled by the STE-2 trigger. They are directed diagonally across the dancefloor so the beams should be strongest dead centre...

I've been using this technique for a while and it seems to work ok for me... generally it keeps colour in the scene pretty well, as long as the DJ has lights that do actually give out some!!

from that one sample an excellent technique - i assume the guns are on the same side as the disco lights.

i tried to get as many kids shot at weddings - on the dance floor was always fun
and love your #5

Really nice work. I love the deep saturation of the outdoor ones.

May I critique a couple of things? In #5 (the 2nd child, boy in dark coat) and #7, the blacks could be slightly too contrasty, making the coat and the groom's hair not show up much detail. Maybe bring it out a bit in post?

And in #10, which is my favorite, because I love love love that backlighting, the bride's hand is not in a very pretty position, I wish it was open gracefully.

Just a couple things I noticed. All in all, it's a wonderful set.

Thank you! Really helpful points. I am in love a bit too much sometimes with contrast (it comes from an early love of Westerns like High Noon, with mega black blacks and ultra white whites). So I have to fight aginst myself sometimes, and it's something I need to get better at

I agree about the bride's hand. I wish I'd noticed. Too busy trying to crouch for a good angle probably. Another from that series, as you liked the other

PS My top tip of today is to always carry a white shower curtain folded up (mine goes in the back pocket part of my lowepro mangum aw, with the aw cover). It's great if the benches etc are dirty or damp!
