WOW so much going on here....would the best way be to take the group shots in JPEG and the special portrait pics and the interior pics in RAW.....but have an idea that the answer would be that would be too much messing about and that you could also for get what setting's you have

I have done two weddings and I did both of them in RAW. I always shoot everything in RAW. One of the little reasons I do so is so I can correct mistakes that you necessarily can not do with a jpeg. Main reason I shoot everything in RAW is because of it being a non-compressed file and for the quality. Just my two cents... Good luck!

I just bought the G6 to free up my D70 and D50 at weddings , it will be on a tripod facing my portrait box connected to a laptop through a TV card . Nothing to cringe about , probably better quality than the first "pro" 3 meg dslr's that came out . With controlled lighting I will probably keep it on jpeg .

Editing OK?: Yes
Default Re: jpg or raw for wedding shoot?

I need to start use CWB as I find that I need less work in ACR if the white balance is set already, but since I do edit them anyway I just make one "sample image" and then save the settings for that and only change the shots that differ from the "sample image" in that particular light.

As for how many shots, I shot a 1.5 hour portraits with up to 6 people (the bridal party), the wedding ceremony and a christening ceremony and the tally was a little over 600 images. I'm a bit too trigger happy, but I rather have one image too much than have missed a shot (which I do anyway). So far I have 4 x 2 GB Sandisk Ultra II, 4 x 1 GB (same brand) and a few odd 512's and 256's (same brand), so in total I have 13 GB of memory cards, although I use the smaller ones at the end, when I'm starting to fill up the other cards. So far I haven't run out of cards yet, but will be the day I shoot a whole day wedding, so I'm going to stock up on more 2 GB cards (I find them being large enough and last long enough to not have to interrupt to put a new card in).

Scott,
It's actually FASTER to do color correction, sharpening, rotating, ect. ect. in RAW than it is JPG.
If you have a solid working knowledge of your converter, it's a snap.

With JPG's, you can run an action to do all of the above, but PS must open every single image before running the action and saving.

But with RAW, all of those corrections can be done at once, in real time, at the same time, saving oodles of time.
Not to mention the forgiving qualities of RAW.

I preach this constantly......don't take so many photos at a wedding.
Each image you take adds to the time in your workflow pattern, yet yields no more money for the effort....

"The more images you shoot, the less $$ you make".

My advice to newly cristened digital photographers is...."Shoot digital like it's very, VERY expensive film".

About a year ago I did a friend's wedding and made about 500 shots. Put them on a DVD and let the bride and groom made a selection
As for RAW-shooting: in my opinion the only settings that count are: aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings. All other adjustments are done in post processing.

I shoot same amount of pics alone and give about 800 pics to my clients. I correct exposure and WB of all 800 RAW files within 5 hours with Lightroom. If I would have to edit one by one in PS, I would also shoot JPG.

I have not found the need for shooting raw. I shoot jpgs exclusively and do weddings, portraits, events. I figure if there's no need for the extra steps in processing then why do it.

Jim,
Your photos look great, and they are all in jpg? Do you have any quality loss in pp?
