Are you saying the camera should automatically switch to TTL/BL or that you personally would rather choose TTL/BL ?

If you put your flash into TTL mode and place it on the hot shoe on the camera, once you change your camera's metering mode to "Matrix" the flash will then automatically change to TTL/BL. This mode is not available unless the flash is on the camera and the cameras metering mode is set to that.

Actually it is only in TTL/BL mode if you set it to that . It does not automatically change to TTL/BL when you select matrix metering .
I did a blog on TTL/BL and there is no difference between matrix and centre weighted metering when you use TTL/BL except when the the one mode determines a different exposure with the ambient as I explain in my video

When the flash is in TTL/BL mode it meters off a wider pattern and adjusts accordingly for the ambient .
Normal TTL flash meters off an area like this :

and TTL/BL meters of an area like this :

TTL/BL only becomes active when it shows "TTL/BL" on the back of your flash .

.
