Focus stacking is a way of increasing the DOF in a photograph by combining several pictures taken from the same point of view but at different focus points. It is normally applied in macrophotography where there is a constant battle between light, aperture, DOF and diffraction softening but can equally be applied in other photographic fields if lack of DOF is causing problems.
I 've done a tutorial here Wonderful Photos: How to Increase your Depth of Field by Focus Stacking on using the freeware PC programme combinezm. Brian V. __________________

This is only possible if the subject is still for a series of photos, correct?

However if there is minor movement causing a duplication in the final image you can easily "repair" this by repair cloning from one of the original pics onto the stacked image. You can however use it to get interesting motion effects where you are stacking images taken with the same focus point but with a moving subject. Sometimes even a poor stack caused by subject movement can be rather interesting ![]() Brian V. Picasso spider ![]() Art on the fly - 9 shot stack where the fly moved a lot between shots. ![]() |
