Default Set manual flash without a meter

I did a quick test to see what standard gray-card exposure looks like on the histogram.
Using the meter, I set the light level to f/11 and fired 7 frames - 3 stops up and 3 stops down.

The as-metered exposure peaks basically dead center on the histogram. Exposure info is on the screen shots.

Good illustrations. I keep telling peeps
that digital camera users do not need a
separate flash meter, that their camera
is the best flash meter ever made. No
previous flash meters provided lighting
effect preview images

It's good to know how to read a histogram, but even if
you can't, you can easily learn to judge your playback
images. Just using the playback alone will work verrrry
well when using your camera as a meter, whether flash
or constant lighting. You wanna see the playback, even
if you CAN read histograms. Histograms don't preview
the actual lighting effect. The playback does that. You
can work with or without a grey card, but to see actual
lighting effects acoarst you'll work without one.

Thats how Im adjusting f Stop now, take the picture in manual with off camera flash, review the image... adjust till happy. Id still like to learn about the hgram, Im sure they went though the trouble to add the feature to a camera for a good reason... Im sure it has some useful information, if I just knew what I was looking at.

Excellent ! You're using the best flash/ambient meter available
today. Learning more about its use will be helpful. Get to know
your histograms ... illuminance and RGB.
