Default B-25s Honoring The Doolittle Raid

This past weekend, April 13-15, 2012 about twenty two B-25s gathered in Urbana Ohio's Grimes Field to honor Jimmy Doolittles 70th anniversary of the bombing of Tokyo. The surviving four members of the raid were on hand.

This was touted as the largest gathering of B-25s since World War II. Here are some shots of several of the planes. I realize some of the camera angles are not the best, but there was security EVERYWHERE!!!

Nice shots Benji

Are there two versions of the plane.. one has a glass nose the other does not.. not sure of my history, but the ones that took part in the Doolittle raid were not the glass nosed ones, is that correct?

Nice shots! This is one of my favorite airplanes. Two of them are from my area, the Devil Dog is from Georgetown, TX, and the Yellow Rose is from San Marcos, TX.

The Devil Dog is a recreation of one of the 202 Marine Corps' B-25s which the US Navy labeled the PBJ-1. There were several different alphabetical variations added after the -1 also as the manufacturer altered the original plane.

Teufel hunden, (German for Devil Dog) is a term coined by the German Army during World War 1 for the US Marine Corps due to their ferocity in defending Paris in the summer of 1918. These dogs of Bavarian folklore were supposedly very ferocious and tenacious.

I know nothing of the specifics of airplanes, more especially military craft. I do have a great admirer's interest in them. That means I like to look at them even if I don't know what model they are. These are some mighty fine pictures, Benji thanks for sharing them.

Completely off topic: Its nice to see someone else is plagued with sensor dust.

Steve
