Persons banned should be able to speak in a moderator only thread

banned means no access to the forum period.
you can always mail the forum owner.

the rule is:
1. spam = posts deleted + banned 4ever right away
2. not following the TOS in a mild way: mods try to coach you in the right direction
either in the thread or by pm.
3. not following the TOS more than once or in a terrible way: banned at least temporary
4. if a forum member reports a post, mods discuss about it and handle it as deemed approriate
5. from time to time the mods put a watch on a forummember who constantly is near crossing the edge of approriate behaviour.

Just for the record, it's supposed to be Paul Buff.

And I believe that one of the reasons he decided to close his forum was that people were complaining about the product.
He would announce a new product, and people complained that it didn't have this or didn't have that.
Then another new product announcement had a switching power supply, and the power supply didn't work. So he went back to a solid state supply (or something along that line) and people complained.

Paul C. Buff's mainstay is lighting equipment.
Running his forum as well, was too much for him.

Thanks for catching that, Killjoy. Certainly a typo, as I have blisters on my fingers (all two of them from keyboarding all day), however, to some that might have had a beef with Buff (have fun with that one), there was an insidiousness that crept it's way into the forum. Buff was very forthcoming, as to difficulties with Chinese manufacturers that accepted certain specs, and then changed them in manufacture. He was apologetic to his customers regarding delays, but did not hide, as to explaining the situation, and the reasons why products would be delayed. The company's products are/were very popular both amongst talented amateurs and professionals, and the value of his company's products are reflected in the prices they command on the used market.
The Alien Bee/White Lightning forum (I believe) was a huge success during it's tenure, and most likely was a boon to sales for the company, but Buff got tired of certain people's "act". Yea, there were spammers, customers who were vocal in their criticism about delivery dates on new products, but the main reason I think, having been a member there (and others here on Camel may/will bear me out, having been members there themselves and left (and gave their reasons why later), was a certain "arrogance". a certain "smugness", a certain "hey, this place ain't no fun anymore". Too much in-fighting. People taking sides against others. Just not a good situation. So it's gone! 'nuff said! But "Pay Buff", funny typo yes, my sentiment? No!

This is not democracy, we are guests here. We pay nothing and with a few exceptions get to do as we please and have to do something significantly egregious to get our butts tossed out.

But, the Internet is a democracy.

You have every right to start up your own Forum and run it any way you please and ban or not ban anyone you want.

As for this "stir the pot" comment - I resent that. I do not "rock the boat", I just hate being harassed period. "Speaking up" is not the same as "stirring the pot". Hopefully you guys will get harassed and see what it's like!

I was once a regular there, but ended up leaving because the tone (which was once friendly and helpful) took a gradual shift to the nasty. Half the images posted there had to be prefaced NSFW. While there was some awesome talent there, there was also some with predatory posting habits. The chief offender was banned around Christmas last year, but by then it was too late for me to want to return. I never really felt at home there anyway. The Camel is and will be my home.
