Default Since we want to be a 'photo-forum'... ;-)) M@H

Hi All !

Since we want to be known as a 'Photo-Forum' rather than a 'Gear-Forum' why don't we express this a little more in the order of the main categories,
and since we are the Camel, why don't we 'loosen up' the titles a bit?

Proposed titles and order:

1. the PhotoCamel is all about Photography! (Galleries and Discussions by photographic topic)

2. ...but we DO have a 'hardware-section' too! (Camera's and Lenses, Other Equipment and Accessoiries)

3. The PhotoCamel: Site Info, Commercial, Links, Miscellany.

This might express the 'Camel-Idea/Feeling' a bit better?

...just *my* €0.02 worth... very open for idea's, suggestion, discussion )

Kindest regards!

Max@Home

I like the idea.... An informal "flair" in the descriptions is fitting. I'm also for flopping the sections:
Gear boards at the bottom while Photo Specific sections receive top-billing.

"Never"? That's a long time and admits of no exceptions. If this change is implemented, you can never again truthfully use that line.

Could you post a shot of that bucket or would it only be a pail imitation?

I quite ike the idea too, and I'll give credit to Mr. P for mentioning it previously (as have I...). In the end, it's not that unusual a suggestion (witness front page on fred miranda). We have a very strong image posting section - the gear end is always going to be behind the likes of DPR until we hit a critical mass, so it's an interesting differentiator in that respect.

Maybe we can hack around on the test site and see how it fits. It is a bit of a radical change, so we do need to approach it with a little caution (and JD may hate it - as is his perogrative ).

The quality of your discussions is much higher in the "gear" sections. The photo gallery sections are nice, but comments there are superficial. I think your best face is already forward.

That is true, though it's scattered around a little. One good thing about this site is that it is not so segmented, and you often find people with one brand posting in another 'brands' patch (and without the horrible baiting as seen on some other photo forums...). It would be nice if we could concentrate such discussions so it attacts all members regardless of the current corporate camera they're currently wearing. I'm more interested in hearing the opinions of a keen photographer rather than a keen 'Olympian' or 'Nikonian' etc... I wonder if that's a radical angle to act as a differentiator?

Well good lordy. Now we need a customization option to allow users to put whichever section on the top. Put that idea in my bucket and shoot me now for even mentioning it

Ah yes, make mine Dark III for the Canonian section and Light II for the galleries!

Let me see.... hmmmm... seems like someone suggested something similar in the moderator discussions. Something about restructuring ideas...

Quality of discussion in the gallery section should improve over time. Once folks check their "egos" at the virtual door to the forum, they are typically more relaxed and more open to honest feedback.

Example: I'm more inclined to give a fellow moderator a more in-depth remark versus somebody that has one post to their name.

Also, critiquing in itself is a discipline that takes a fair amount of skill. Which of course can be developed.... I'm still working on my skills in that area!

A "Flip Flop" of forum sections may encourage more to do the same and may even attract
more photographers?

I agree. It is absolutly true but keep in mind that a picture says a 1000 words. I personnaly learn a lot just by looking at pictures. Even if the comments are more superficial the photo galleries are telling a lot.
