I am fairly new here, so I may be missing something, but I am finding it is not easy to find a members picture gallery.
I see some members who put a link to their gallery in their signature, but would it not be possible to have a link to the gallery included in the sidebar of the post. I can already link to the users profile from there, but when I get to the profile, still no link to the gallery. Personally, when a member posts something that grabs my attention then I want to go and find some more of their work. I would find an easy link to a posters gallery a very useful addition. I have to agree Kevin...I think the galleries would be a big draw for photocamel if they were more along the lines of a "Portfolio" and easliy accessed...Im not sure if it can be done...I dont know diddly about forum software..
Great suggestion though. Don. |

The downside of forum galleries is that images have to be uploaded into them. Not only could this use up a lot of disk space of the system, but most people perfer to link from their own web site.

Can you not get the "link" to your PhotoCamel Gallery's homepage and post that in the Profile place where it asks for a website? Then when people click the Earth Globe Icon by your name on the leftside, it would take them there.
Unless you feel the need to have two different websites for people to go to, it should work fine. |

I've never seen other forum software do that, Mr. P. Maybe this software is different. But I don't remember seeing that the one time I looked at the gallery area.

Don't know what you are talking about Mike. Are you talking about the Gallery not having a "link"?
Mine is this: http://www.photocamel.com/gallery/index.php?cat=10238 You already know about the website link in the Profile, since you already have one to Sit N Pretty.... |

I am suggesting that it would be nice to have a quick and easy way to visit members galleries to see if they have any work on display there. In the same way that some members will not populate their gallery, other members will not have web-sites to link to. Quote:
I would have to rely on them manually providing a link for me. I was asking whether an automatic link was possible. |

Pickles, I was talking about having to upload images into the Camel gallery. You made it sound like people could post images in the Camel gallery by linking from an external place rather than uploading. I said I didn't think that was possible as I've never seen gallery software allow you to do that. I know very well that people can link to a gallery that they are hosting on their web site or somewhere external to the Camel.
Kevin, yes, the registered users have disk space, but if everyone actually used that space, especially with as many users that are joining the Camel, the space needed would soon be very large. Maybe Jay has access to a lot of disk space and that won't be an issue. But I know other sites do have to keep that in mind. Also, if enough people put images on here and then linked to them from other sites, that would also effect the bandwidth for all of us. That's why some of the freebie sites don't allow hot linking to images saved on those sites. Bandwidth would probably become a bigger issue than disk space as that that would affect all of us. Although this site is not one of them, you also have to be sure and read all the fine print when you upload images to a gallery at some sites. Some have it that you are giving them the right to use your images for anything they want if you upload it. Most images probably wouldn't be used for anything and since most people don't register their images, it wouldn't be worth taking someone to court over if their image was used for something else by the site. What I find interesting though, is those that do use the galleries to put images into, many of those were never posted here in the forums. I don't know if some of these people don't want to post in the forums or if they are just using the space for storage. It doesn't matter since this isn't my site, but I do find it interesting.
