But, it is truely a serious question. Does the contrast and lighting on your camera's LCD need to be set at a certain level? IUs it possible to be too bright or too dark? How much affect will it have on your image.

I am not an expert but I am sure that the settings of the LCD have no effect what so ever on the image, if you are working in a studio you would have the LCD brightness down a bit, but outside in the sun its hard to see it even on its brightest setting even when you shade it with your hand.
In bright light I can only use the histogram to judge the exposure, its a nice bright yellow on mine ![]() By the way, the only dumb question is one that is not asked ![]() Cheers David |

Sorry, I didn't pose the question right. By saying have an affect on my image. I should have stated, have an affect on the way I view the image to actually be. I never messed with it. But I was outside and having trouble viewing the image on my lcd. So I bumped it up so I could see it better. After I did adjust my apperture and what not. So I wonder if I messed up by messing with the LCD in the way I view the image. Hence changing the outcome of that image.

Yes, Ernie, it will have an effect. If your brightness or contrast is bumped on the LCD and you make an adjustment based on what you see, then you may be making the wrong adjustment. Of course, if you shot RAW it wouldn't be a big deal (dig..dig). However, you need to use your camera's meter to let you know if your shot is correctly exposed, don't use the LCD. Use that for composition and sharpness, but not your exposure.

I find it does ..Even with the d300's great lcd display i need to rely on the histogram to judge my shooting ..As of late I've even started using the matrix metering instead of spot just to ensure my darks are bright enough.. only because shooting outdoors leaves me with a dark display..
