Sis, I did find it amusing...you have a wonderful way of talking to PIckles...but look see here...you, me, Fran and Lee get in a room together and then everything goes off topic and pretty soon we're gonna get stickied again.

Lately we have had some questionable critiques. Wanna know a secret? We have had them for nearing 3 years.
Suggestions were made, and the counter was presented. The mods will decide on them. Still, I'll repeat myself because I can...you can't please them all. If you don't think we should have a post counter, then don't look at it. If you want to pump up your gallery, go ahead. Some may look at it. Still be better if people would just post about what has been building this site for 3 years, and that is photography. And we got a lot more to share than some realize. |

Hi guys
sorry to come late to this discussion but theres one thing that hasnt been taken into consideration. What if the member concerned hasn't taken many photos and hasnt any more to post? Point in question, myself. Ive had difficulty lately getting round and havent taken many photos for that very reason.Ive posted quite a few and gotten some very good critique but Ive posted on more threads than I started myself because the photography I saw amazed and inspired me. cant I be allowed to comment on a photo just for the sheer joy of doing so.To tell the thread owner who bloody good |I think their image is-or conversely how bad I think it is without having to post an image of mine first.Believe me when I say if I could get out there all the time and get good photo after good photo I would blitz this forum with every one that I thought was worthy of posting. Id hate something to be brought in now that would put people like me off from visiting Photocamel Towers cos quite frankly I love coming here.I do promise though that in the next few weeks I`ll try to post a few more images so my comment to pikkie ratio is maintained. In the meantime I just enjoy being on here without the pressure of being an admin and moderator like I am on my own forum. Bessy regs Kenny |

Post count is the default meter, a better one could be implemented. I think a comment to picture post ratio works because : When someone tells you your image "sux" you can look at their images to see if they don't ![]() The last person who called my image "boring" had no gallery!!! Cheers, Craig |

Well, it would never be my intent to limit people from posting and I think I have done a rather poor job in explaining my thoughts. Mr Pickles: I will try not to re-invent the wheel anymore. Lets comment and post, post and comment until our hearts delight. No more rules no more anything, it'll all work out and I firmly believe it to be true now. I truly have seen the error in my ways and thoughts. Truly. The good outweighs the bad, Good triumphs over evil and all will be well in time. But.....Kenny For the love of god I can't figure out who the hell is Bessy Regs ? Even googled it. Nothing. So you can't comment anymore until you explain it. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I basically agree with Fran that if you post harsh critique then you ought to be able to back it up by showing your own work and establishing your credentials. That would happen in a perfect world, but unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world.
The Camel is a microcosm of the real world where there are nice people who go out of their way to help others and then people with plenty of negative energy that believe that being overly harsh and in some cases insulting and hateful is beneficial to the photographer receiving the critique. As long as we live in the real world and not some utopia that's just the way it will be. I basically think the camel works well. Not perfectly, but well nonetheless. I've never seen a board yet that was better. I stay on one board mostly because that is about the only board I ever post images too. To my twisted thinking, if I can't be a full participant then I'd rather keep my mouth shut. |

Hi Guys
you just dont know how much you've just cheered me up.This came up on another forum of which I am an administrator. One of our US members thought my name was Bessy Regs!!!! she then got completely bamboozled and googled it and put a post on our forum and I was gobsmacked to find the hit rate on google by using bessy regs instead of best regards.I thought she was pulling my leg til I googled it myself and was astonished. Its worked that well i think i`m going to use it on my web page-when I get round to getting rid of all the doom and gllom black and make it a bit more cheery! I`m glad I created a little discussion and have really enjoyed this thread. Its not always photography itself that raises interest but sometimes the sidelines that follow on with it. I look forward to many more subjects such as this and kudos to everyone for remaining dignified and polite during the discussion. On some forums Ive been on its been out and out war I can yell ya! I agree with almost everything that y'all have been saying... but I do want to add that it might be beneficial to add a "picture post" counter... not necessarily a gallery count, because I add a lot of pictures to posts without adding them to my gallery... but if we've got a counter on how many posts we have... why not add (maybe even in parenthesis next to that number) a count of how many picture's we've posted.
Posts 578 (165) I'm sure I'm not explaining myself well enough, because I'm sick and my brain isn't functioning properly at the moment...but hopefully you get my point there are several people in here that haven't posted a single picture and yet they have some rather HARSH critiques to give. I see something wrong with that. There are other's who are famous for posting honest / harsh critiques also, but they've posted pictures and you can SEE for yourself that they actually know what they are talking about. I don't mind getting tough critique from them... And I don't know why I just commented in here... I normally try to keep myself nuetral... after saying all of that... I have no problems whatsoever with any part of the Camel website! I love it exactly the way that it is... I know who to ignore and who to listen to when a comment / critique is made on any of my posts... if you spend enough time in here (and I think I spend TOO MUCH time in here!) reading posts and looking at the different forums, you can figure out pretty easily who's a reputable photographer and who's just blowing hot air. okay. that's just my opinion on things! |

Just came in to check out this thread.......but I see a couple of points missing......
1.) When I read a Movie or Music review, I like to find out what sorts of movies/music that reviewer liked....and what he/she hated......as everyone has their own unique tastes, I find I cannot "blindly" accept the opinion of a reviewer that loves all the films I hate.....Having a view or insight into the style and shots a commenter prefers can only help to filter that opinion as valid or invalid....(i.e. if a commenter only shoots HDR, they may obviously have many issues with a B/W shot utilizing the Dynamic range of film alone, etc....) 2.) Most of these forums do not offer the custom configuration that most of us would like.....I'm not sure about the limitations of this particular board's software....but for many "set-up your own forum" services, you do not have the option of changing the code to adjust the fundamentals of how the board works.....again, I am not familiar with this board's system, but this idea may simply not be possible to implement......a forum Admin would know more.... |

Not everything that everyone shoots is appropriate to post. I haven't shot for my own pleasure in months, and I don't post any customers' images, unless there is permission to do so. The more regulations you place on a site that thrives on participation, the less participation you will get. Adding a requirement, or even just a subtle pop up is a STUPID idea. The Camel is fine the way it is. There is no value add in the proposed idea.
