Love the Gallery idea
Can you receive critique there? For the record, there are also those who post extraordinary pictures and do very little critiquing of others stuff. I'd welcome a ratio warning for lower responses as well. Again not to pitch them off the cliff into all levels of Dante's Inferno, just to encourage them to help us poor shmoes as well. If you got 20 pics where we all ooh and ahh, and no posts critiquing others you are missing an opportunity to help others as well. Ya know: "Community" Edit: I used "warning" I don't mean warning as much as suggestion. Again not to single any one person out. __________________

spystyle, your post is the perfect example of the nightmare that trying to please everyone poses. There are simply too many variables involved to try to "legitimize" everyone. What's next? Make everyone post his tax return?
I think a person's reputation becomes self-evident pretty quickly and they are afforded whatever respect they come to deserve. Suffice to say there are many posts that I simply jump over when reading through a thread because I know what I'll find there and I don't necessarily want to get any of it on me. ![]() |

Yeah that was funny. And I wouldn't equate age with talent or wisdom directly.
But I would support a little check box when you are uploading a pic asking "Would you like this displayed in your gallery." |

The FREE PhotoCamel Gallery is here as a bonus to our Members. It is here so our Members can post their images in there, rather than at other sites, some of which require a yearly or monthly fee.
We do NOT want to put a requirement to actually put images into their gallery. Just so you know, a lot of people come to PhotoCamel to DISCUSS photography, and could really care less about what you have in your "gallery" whether it is here or elsewhere. And a lot of people will NOT click on a link to images regardless of their location. It isn't easy pleasing everybody, and some of these suggestions will take time to implement and may not have any impact on the greatness of PhotoCamel itself. Seems like these new suggestions by some members (Gallery count, thread to image ratio met, etc) could be considered some odd rating system so people can judge whether a critique or suggestion is worthy or not, and we shouldn't need one. A better suggestion would be to explore the whole site and actually discuss the images and ideas presented, and comment on more of them. Some members seem to be stuck in one or two boards here, but talk and post about things that should be elsewhere. Sure their argument that the other boards aren't visited much is valid, but only because they aren't going in there and participating either..... |

Some of the postingts are bad and some are good just like in real life. My statement was a relative one: postings with images don't get a higher 'rating', postings without images don't get a higher rating. Quote:

Alright, I give up.
![]() Leave it the exact way it is. Lee's probably right it settles itself out. If your reference is directed at me Mr. Pickles. I never once said that this is how it should be done in every forum. Nor do I visit a lot of them. I'd be interested in suggestions for becoming a better Member here. For instance, I promise I will make an effort to visit other forums. Maybe even the Image editing forum, I got a lot to learn there. You are right. Edit: Rense: You have changed my mind. Honestly. Thanks. |

My reference was directed at whomever wants to receive it. If you like part of the site, you might like other parts. Might learn some new stuff. Might make you better.
Of course, it might not, and you might get less done because you are on here even more... ![]() |

I have been on forums that don't display "post count" and that really makes every post seem equally as "potentially valuable" - but adding things like age, post count, number of images in gallery, ect. Does help us to evaluate who we are talking with. For example, if a teenager called my snapshot "boring" I would take it less to heart than if a real photographer did.. Also I would wonder why a real photographer used a word as simple as "boring" when critiquing my image and didn't give a more detailed analysis. Cheers, Craig |

If you are a baseball fan you'll get this. In the American league pitchers don't come to bat, so if they decide to intentionally hit another team's batter, there's no consequence. In the other league(National Leauge, or what some of us refer to as the minor league,) pitcher's have to come to bat. SO if you plunk someone intentionally in the NL, you get plunked yourself when you come to bat. You would think there would be a lot of plunking, but there isn't in the National League because the pitcher can't do it without some consequence. Happens all the time in the AMericn Leaugue because the pitcher doesn't come to bat. We got some American League pitchers here and I thought it'd be good to let them get up to bat ocasionally. And remember, there's no crying in baseball. |
