Somtimes because it's the internet and people are:
A) Too sensitive B) Aren't fully understood when they are trying to communicate c) Wrong, but just haven't realized it yet It's double sided. You are affected by it, and they are affected by it.. Examples of miscommunication For example when you kept questioning using the word "Amazing". You wrote "Amazing? I don't see how". Well depending on the reader that can show up a bunch of ways. To me it showed up as "I don't think it's amazing, I think it's the (opposite reaction)" while to you it was more "Amazing is too strong a word". Maybe writing someone like "Amazing is too strong a word". Concerning dwights post, I'm not a fan of everyone fitting into molds but I do like consistentcy. I don't have as much a problem with your font, but if SOMEONE TYPES IN ALL CAPS, I want to fedex them overnight a cockpunch and slap their wife if they have one (she made a bad choice). Somethings annoy people. Not many other people on the forum write in red fonts. I believe a friendly message about how hard your font is to read would of made more sense than a negative karma smack. All an all it might be the words you use. It's subjective, and you can call me sensitive, but when I read your post I still feel sometimes you sit on a high horse. I'm not trying to be mean, but it's just the words you use and not who you are. |

I hear you, Trent.....but I went through all the posts these two people made.......and I am not a part of anything that was said........As for the words I use.....i use clear unambiguous language to communicate as clearly as I can......usually.....sometimes I'm trying to relate a feeling an image gives me, and that tends towards less definite language to get the point out.
As far as I know, I have only the one horse that I ride....I don't beleive in different horse for different occasions. That's my ideal anyway....sometimes I do slip.....Bob |

Bob. Please. I give you every benefit of the doubt and had no intention of posting here but let me show you something.
12 minutes after you started this thread you posted this in a thread started by someone else, "I'd be embarrased to show these to the sort of client I might do such promos for..." Now even if a person respects someone who is honest and speaks his mind, which I do, this is exceedingly harsh. I would've taken this personal. You're like the guy who's been married 12 times and claims all 12 were impossible to live with. At what point do you look somewhere else for the source of the trouble? btw, regarding the two people who dinged you, I didn't see that you and they had a problem. Not sure what that was about. |

I can tell you right now that this thread is going to go downhill fast. "Calling out" threads never end well.
And the red font IS a pita for those of us using Camel Dark skin instead of the standard Camel Light. Kind of like me writing in gray or something. I know this isn't the first time you've read this type of comment because I made it myself many months ago in a thread. |

Lee, I was being honest and candid towards images I thought were......not good. I also admit that tastes vary......I have photographed such venues in the past though.....and Trent's were just too sloppy in my opinion. Consider this from another point of view.....when a photographer shoots a job similar to this one and the client doen't like it......the client dumps it ....doesn't purchase the images.....or the rights...etc. No Critique at all.....No money either. At least I explained my thoughts to a point. And, honestly, I really would be embarrassed to present these images to a client of mine. As I said though......If Trent wishes, I shall say nothing of any critical nature about anything he posts in future. Candour is one thing ....Disrespect is another, and I mean no disrespect towards Trent at all......the real world out there, is far less kind. Respects....Bob |

Bob, you obviously have a lot of experience and talent in photography. It's shown in your work and your comments.
But... I've noticed more than once that your opinions are based on your tastes and your style of shooting rather than a general view. I think you tend to forget that photography, as an art, is entirely subjective in judgement. It's so dependent on personal tastes that there is never going to be a time when all people are satisfied with an image. Without knowing the client, you have no way of knowing what he or she would pay for. Making a judgement based on factors you don't know merely reinforces the message you send in your critiques: If YOU don't like it, no one will. |

I understand Bob. I really do. And you're right about the client critique being monetary. But I read this thread and was feeling bad for you and then immediately ran across the other one. I was sitting at work all alone and laughing out loud at the contradiction.

Bob, you don't critique. You sit around beating around the bush speaking words that suggest you can do better and don't tell people what they do wrong. Then you complain that people are unfair to you, and you don't know what's wrong. When someone shows the same passion in a fight that you do in the beginning, than you say "Oh I'm going to go away now"....
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The karma I gave you is just that. It alludes to my answer on my post, and also a continuation of what Brian said. Photography is so subjective, that you or me can't know all the answers. I can't be the photographer you want me to be, probably will lose money and clients if I did things you're way than mine. Hell how can I even start doing things the way you think is right if you don't share with me how you think it should be done? Capiche? |
