Is there a way to set the sort to the newest post and keep it there or do we have to sort each time we reenter the forum?

Yes!

Go into your Control Panel (top left menu) and select Edit Options. Scroll down to 'Thread Display Options' and select 'Linear - Newest First'. Save your changes and from now on all threads will be sorted with the latest post at the top.

You can also get more info on this from the PhotoCamel FAQ:

Note that most signature lines have funny characters in them like "<br />". Any special control characters or smilies appear not to have convered from the profiles.

yes - any signatures on multiple lines will need the < br > removed.

Also, avatars are not carried over, but there are many to choose from here (or you can re-upload any of your own).

Within a forum category clicking on "Last Post" to sort the list gave this error: Fatal error: Unable to read 25811 bytes in /home/photocam/public_html/forum/vbseo.php on line 0

Many will need to edit their signatures (explore the Control Panel--click the button on the menu bar) and to choose a new avatar or re-upload their custom avatar.

There is no option available to upload custom avatars. The only options I see are "Do not use an avatar" and choose a predefined one from the categories available.

But what I'm saying is, that option is not available to me (I'm guessing you only have it enabled for moderators).

This is the screen as I see it:

jdart,
there is no possibility to choose a custom avatar at my controlpanel settings. Do you need to switch on an option for non adminstrators to use this functionality?

Try switching to the Camel Light color scheme to do it. I used it, worked fine. Maybe an issue with the dark scheme. Be nice to try and let us know.

I switched to Camel Light and there's still no custom avatar field for me. It looks exactly the same as the screen print I posted. Just different colors.

Someone else responded to you, and I accidentally deleted the response. Sorry!

Two things:

Under Quick Links, there's a Subscribed Threads option. Click that.

We're also putting in a new feature (not yet implemented) that will do it more obviously.

I've run both themes, and the "Upload Custom Avatar" option is still missing. Seems like someone checked "disable custom avatars" for the general members group in the admin panel...
