Only thing I can think of is that maybe there's a server down somewhere between the e-mail server of the forum and you...
I guess you could try pinging and running a traceroute on the IP address the email is normally coming from and see if it takes an abnormally long time to get there (and which hop is causing the delay). Previous emails (hopefully you saved one) should have all of the information you need in them. (You'll probably have to go into the 'view' menu and enable some options that are disabled by default to see where it came from.)
That most likely won't help you actually fix the problem, but it might tell you where it is. (I'm assuming here that the problem is not on your end. Most likely somewhere between you and the forum...)
If you don't know how to do that, google it - it's pretty easy. If you use Windows, you would do it through the command prompt. If you use Mac or Linux, you would do it through the terminal.
No matter what OS you use, the tools should already be on your machine.
