Default Proud Navy Mom

My sis has spent her days off this month volunteering at the store she works at on a project to collect donations of money and items to send to our troops. Her she is showing off her sons Isaac and Nathanial, both in the Navy.

That's great Bunny. Tell her to say thank you to them for me. I was in the Navy myself.

The picture itself looks a little soft, I would have preferred the face of the lady with the cap to be less blurred. Also there's a lot of visual clutter in the background and some of the props (like the tin foil banner) look as if they weren't complete. It gives more the impression of a snapshot than of am image that has been composed with a message in mind.

The other thing that confuses me as someone not from the USA is, why that kind of charity drive is necessary. As far as I understood, the current US military is professional only and has no conscription. I would expect the government of the USA as an employer to provide decent care for its employees, specially if they're doing an important, unpleasant and dangerous job.

It is a documentary snapshot chronicalling the efforts of a United States Navy mom to give something back to the troops that are serving in our military. Yes our government does take care of its employees but there is always gonna be a few little niceties they can't get while serving overseas. It is her way of saying "thank you." The message is that she is sharing the story of her sons with someone who showed interest. Maybe a few of you veterens can chime in here and explain to Korman just how much it means to be on the receiving end of such public support.

As far as visual clutter goes, well gee, maybe I should have made her tear it down and set it up somewhere away from the store and the customers that were doing the donating. This was the last half hour of the last day of the drive. She asked me if I could stop by and get a few pictures for her so she could share them with my nephews and other interested partys. She spent 4 weekends doing this and raised close to $500 in cash and about 3 grocery carts full of donated goods.

Like Bunny said, it is very important for our troops to know that we the people support them. This is especially important in conflicts that are not popular with much of the world. Our liberal media never show the progress that occurs. They only show the dark side of their view to stir unrest. Our Government doesn't supply the "little" things that make it easier to bear the psychological effects of war. Little things like letters or cards, or even cookies help keeps a soldier in touch with the tender things in life. Dodging bullets all day take a toll on your mind. They also need to know they will be respected when they return.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I think it is a wonderful thing your sister is doing to help raise funds/provisions for our military. We send shoe boxes of goodies from our church to help our men and women who are away from home. It means so much to them to get these things from "home" and especially the stuff they can't get over there.

Tell your sister to tell her boys "thank you" for me too!

Ah, ok. It's sad that it's necessary but good that it's done.

What meant about the clutter wasn't to relocate the whole thing, more along the lines of moving just that billboard (which looks rather mobile anyway) to the right between that bin and the table. I guess, with a similar pose you would have ended up with a lot more "Support our troops" table and less wall of crisps and sauce.

But then, I just might be a little too picky. That may come from my regular job where paying attention to details saves a lot of hassles.

My question is: As I have gathered from the tv, Fox News seems to favour the republicans, then what station is favouring the democrats? And is there a station that favours only news, objectively?

maybe lower the f-stop to get less DOF. It is a bit on the blue side in terms of colour temperature or something. Anyway, it is what it is, there is a school of thought that goes along with just taking the shot and not tampering with it. So with that in mind, this is as good as some scenes can get...

I think the importance of photojournalism is the it tells the story and I Bun has done that here. Well done.
