Default My camera's survived 80-0 in 0.1 seconds !

Today , 10/08/2006 , I was doing 80 km/hr when a bus turned in front of me . I slammed on brakes but still probably hit him at about 70km/hr since my wheels locked up . All I could think of is "my legs are going to get cut off!" . After all the noise and glass shattering was over I felt both my feet were ok and thought " my cameras on the passenger side !" . I asked a passerby to see if they could dig them out and take a few shots of me trapped in the van until the fire dept could cut me out but it was crushed too far . When we pulled the front up I dug out my crushed camera bag and lo and behold , my S70 and G6 were both still ok !
Now I can still go on leave tomorrow and climb a snow covered mountain with two good legs and a compact that isn't crushed !

Jeez Desmond... You do seem to have things happen to you . Must be the curse of PhotoCamel. I'm glad you're OK and truly admire your attempt to capture pictures of yourself while trapped in the vehicle. Respect!

Why do you think I chose my yellow "accident icon " below my name ! I actually chose that after cutting my hand open three months after falling down a snow covered volcanoe !

That's good new Desmond... I mean that you were unhurt that is.

I'm thinking with your luck you should go ahead and go for Everest next Spring.

You're probably gonna be a bit sore on that climb this week.

Glad to hear that you are okay. It seems that you are lucky to have hit the luggage compartment as hitting a more structurally sound area could have hurt a bit more.

Glad to hear you're okay and that everything's worked out so far. Take care on your climb.

I must admit, getting photographed probably wouldn't be the first thing to occur to me after getting involved in a car accident with a bus, but that was a pretty neat idea. Unique, for one thing. =)

In future I will have to store my cameras where I can get to them if I am trapped in my van , then I could have supplied some good shots of the hydraulic jaws cutting the steering wheel , about 1 cm from my left leg . 3 people have suggested I buy a lotto ticket !
Waking up this morning my legs fel ok , just a bit of discomfort in my stomach but I think it is because I haven't had much water to drink . Good timing since I had booked a full medical check-up for this morning for my health insurance , if they still want to insure me that is !

I used to keep a Canon SD500/IXUS Powershot in my pocket all the time, but I haven't done that recently because I realized I was carrying too much stuff in my pockets...
