Default Still Life Challenge #86 田offee"

This month’s challenge is all about coffee.

It could be your favourite mug with some steaming liquid black gold that gets you going in the morning, a delicate tiny cup of espresso, a pile of beans , a coffee grinder, or . . . . okay, you might want to add some props too, sugar, milk or cookies too.

You would really blow me away when you’d use instant coffee and create that smashing image that would make me want a cup of brew

You could make it as creative as you like, maybe a tad towards commercial if you like.
Just don't throw in your cat, cause you've photographed kopi luwak

Go bonkers amigos
Good luck,
Ronald

And just a reminder to all of our Still Life definition:

"What is Still Life Photography?
Still Life Photography is the depiction of inanimate objects (usually more than one) arranged specifically for the purpose of creating a photograph. It involves choosing and arranging props in a specific setting, with attention also given to lighting and composition.

We ask that all images posted here meet the criteria of what constitutes a Still Life Photo. Please take the time to read through the definitions before posting. If you need more explanation, just ask! We're here to help you. Found Scene photographs belong in our "All Other Styles" forum."

So let's get things going with some coffee! this is a real melange of time with items from different eras but with coffee as a common theme. Three lights used here, large soft box overhead and then a CTO gelled light right above the converted coffee pot (converted into a lamp) and then another similarly gelled speed light from the right. And my first shot on here with a full frame camera!

I don't actually "do" coffee; but hope to get something using tea. I just need to find an adequate block of time that is concurrent with an adequate store of energy. :/

In all honesty I'm a tea drinker myself. I gave up drinking coffee three years ago due to stomach problems.

Some day when time / inspiration allows I'll do a nice coffee shot.

Sorry to hear we have so few coffee drinkers! On our cruise through the Panama Canal I was able to go on a tour of the Philander Coffee Plantation in Guatemala. It was the coffee plantation from which I bought green coffee beans and roasted in Japan. Even if you don't drink coffee I still would highly recommend it. It included a steak meal out in a park like veranda.

My shot inspired by the plantation visit is trying to depict the cycle of preparation from picked berry to ground ant tamped coffee leading to a cup of espresso coffee.

The set up was like this.

Thanks for your C&C. Jim

Jim, your shot proves that one doesn't need a big/expensive setup to make a nice shot.
Though it could be my monitor (calibrated Eizo) but it looks a tad darkish to me, apart from that, nice image. Ohh and nice story to go with the image too.

cheers,
Ron
