Default Still Life Challenge #85 Cookware

The theme for this month's challenge is Cookware
So anything that is related to the storage, preparation, display or cooking and serving of food can be used, food can be part of the shot too but cookware is the main focus

Hardlight, softlight, indirect lighting or any other lighting you can have fun with, but a setup shot is always appreciated so others can learn from it

As usual let's keep in mind the basic definition from Athena:

"What is Still Life Photography?
Still Life Photography is the depiction of inanimate objects (usually more than one) arranged specifically for the purpose of creating a photograph. It involves choosing and arranging props in a specific setting, with attention also given to lighting and composition.

We ask that all images posted here meet the criteria of what constitutes a Still Life Photo. Please take the time to read through the definitions before posting. If you need more explanation, just ask! We're here to help you. Found Scene photographs belong in our "All Other Styles" forum."

Ow, first to post . . .

Hope you like this one: Spoonz and forkz
Straight out of camera, though this is a screenshot of the CR2 file.

Unfortunately I don't have a setup photo, but I hope this explains it a bit.

- Canon 5D mkII, 90mm T/S lens.
- Generic Manfrotto shooting table.
- 1x Elinchrom RX600 with standard reflector (normally used for brollies) on the floor, pointing straight up through the plexiglass table. Approx 30cm behind the cutlery.
- and an A4 sized white cardboard held above the spoons, reflecting the light to add depth to the spoons and defining the white edge line on the forks.
- sheer luck that created the reflection on the table.

Ohh btw if this isn't exactly considered cookware, then I'll edit this post and add my 2nd choice (a Global kitchen knife).

Cheers,
Ronald

A great shot Ronald, it's simplicity and composition make for a dramatic image and a very good example of controlled lighting. A good start to this months challenge thanks for posting.

Very interesting composition and artsy presentation with the lighting. Great shot!

Was you T/S adjusted for the top surfaces?

Well actually the choice for the T/S was kinda because of the IQ, it is a tack sharp lens. And the 150mm Sigma didn't give me the perspective/view I had in mind.

So you didn't use T/S. Interesting. Thanks for the explanation.

Was the table curved so you got the reflection?

nope, flat as a pancake.

[Edit]
Well, the backside of the plexiglass did go up in a curve, though the front (referring to reflection question) was not curved.

Excellent and once I saw this I knew I had to try and emulate it for myself. So far no joy but I'll keep trying. Paul
