I'm not very good at conversions myself but I had a play with yours. I used the default urban snapshots from the black and white conversion menu then played around with the contrast and the red channel a touch. finally I added a mask to bring back some detail in the whites. Mine may be too deep in tones but it's worth a play and that's how you learn.

Thanks for that. I don't have that pre-set, still using Photoshop 7. Haven't tried tweaking channels other than the black one, need to expand my efforts.

Actually I'm sure you do have that because I just upgraded to PSE10 from PSE7 in the past month and I sure it's there.

Try this, select Enhance, then Convert to Black and White, then in the lower left portion of the popup window you should see Select Style. It should be there in the Style list. Then you will find the color channels are on the lower right side of the window. Please try these steps and tell me if I'm wrong. I have a dual boot drive system, one is a SSD and one is a standard HDD. I still PSE7 on the HDD and I will boot off the HDD to see if I'm right or wrong on that.

I like your crop and conversion. Can you also do a HP edge filter with your software? I think it would be even better.

Thanks. Unfortunately GIMP does not have a HP edge filter

I re-booted from my old drive and loaded up PSE7 and as I knew the black and white conversion options I mentioned are there.

Doing this also helped remind me that SSD are much.... much faster than HDD. Not only in booting but in operation. I just need one 10 times larger than the 120 gig I have now.

Photoshop 7 is different, and much older, (2002) than PSE 7. It doesn't have those presets, but I don't think that's nearly as important as the concept of adjusting the black levels in the other color channels, I think that opens up a lot of options. Will have to experiment.
