Still Life Challenge #29 - Tools.
Our still life challenge for June is about *Tools*, I Know all of us are handy people & there are tools in every house and workshops, so lets give it a shot & try to be creative and the most important thing is to practice our still life photography and have fun.

I like photographing tools of all kinds. I thought I'd stay with a low-key, natural sort of feel for this shot of a wood plane. I positioned the tool on a wooden crate to take advantage of the texture of the crate.
My first light was a hard gridded light through a cukaloris with random cutouts to create a mix of lit areas and dark shadow areas on the tool. |

A small soft box overhead added light to the top surfaces of the plane.

I then added a foil board reflector on the right side to bounce light into the dark areas not lit by the other two lights....

A third light splashed on the background using a 11" round reflector and mylar diffuser adds another layer and dimension that the black background lacked....

The left hard light, top soft light, reflector on the right and the background light all together for the finished shot...
