I was messing around with some cherries this morning and here are the results.
I used a fairly simple lighting setup on this; a 24 X 24 soft box camera left and a little above the cherries. Comments and critiques are always welcome. Thank you. Toby ![]() __________________

That's great light. I also like the diagonal line created by the edge of the group of cherries, and having the grout lines of the tile at an angle also adds interest.
The choice of three single cherries in the forground is a good one because it's much easier to work a composition with an odd number of elements....3 is better than 2 and 5 is better than 4 etc. I do think that those three cherries could be closer together without space between them. A tighter arrangement for them might be better. |

Well done. All you need now is a fancy title like " Separation ", or " The Three Musketeers".

I spent a lot of time setting this image up including making sure the three cherries in front weren’t merging with the background cherries or each other. Once I got everything where I wanted it I made the image and thought this is it. That type of thinking is my biggest obstacle I need to overcome. Instead of being happy with just one outcome I need to strive to make several different compositions before I call it a day. Next time I will try it with the objects separated and bunched together. Thanks for the advice. Toby Thanks for taking the time to comment. Thanks for commenting Bob. When I enter this in competition I think I’ll call it “Separated from the Crowd” thanks for the name tip. |

I'm really impressed with this lighting - it feels like natural light! Have you avoided having a square specular by using such a large light source extreme close to your subject(s)?
I also like that you have singled out three cherries in the front. I especially like that you have posed each of them with a different side facing the camera. And I like that the center one has a nice long, curved stem. __________________
