Thunderboat Races - Larger Images

I hope that this does the trick. This time I tried posting images at 72 ppi with the maximum side 800 pixels. I hope that these appear larger than my previous post.

Thunderboat Regatte, Unlimited Hydroplane Races, September 14th and 15th, San Diego Mission Bay.

Shot with Canon 30D and Canon 400mm f/5.6L. Supported by Giottos MT8180 Tripod and Manfrotto 3421 Gimbal Lens Mount. Shot at 5 fps in AV preferred at f/8 (ISO 400).

This is the first time I used the above combination and it works perfectly. The 400mm f/5.6L lens focuses extremely fast, the Giottos tripod is a dream to use and is tall enough for me (I am 6'1") to use without stooping or elevating the center column. Combined with the neat Manfrotto 3421 Lens Support it is easy to to follow fast moving subjects such as these 150+ MPH hydroplanes. The 3421 Support is easy to use and the camera/lens can be balanced so that it needs only finger pressure to follow the subjects.

The total package is relatively light weight at 11.6 pounds. (Tripod = 5.5 pounds; 3421 = 1.8 pounds; lens = 2.8 pounds; and camera = 1.5 pounds).

These are all awesome shots. I think the green borders on the last 2 are distracting, but the pics are great.

As far as setting PPI, that isn't going to make any difference for how an image is displayed on the web. An 800x600 image at 72ppi will look the same as an 800x600 image at 300ppi. The monitor is going to display these both at 100%, meaning 800 pixels wide. It's when you go to print this same image that it makes a difference...
