Ice Hockey

I'm looking for advise, tips recommendations on shooting ice hockey pictiures.

Most of the pictures will be taken in small poorly lit rinks, getting in the penalty box or players box won't be an option. I'll be shooting a DSLR with 28-80 zoom & a 75-300 zoom.

Any recommendations for shooting through plexiglas?

Put a lens hood on the lens, stick the lens hood right up to, and perpendicular, to the plexiglass. And hope something pops into your range. You didn't specify, but your lenses are a "higher" aperture, right? So need light, and in a poorly lit rink, your in trouble. Light reflecting from the ice will help, but not much. You need to keep the aperture open as wide as you can, and hope for the best.

Try and shoot when there is little action. Look for opportunities where a bit of motion will enhance the image. Like a "fixed" slapshot, where the body isn't moving, but the arms are rotating with the stick. Or during a face off, right when the puck is dropped, as the sticks should move quick, while the bodies will not move as much. Stuff like that.

And when the players get close to you, get the camera off the glass because it moves when they crash the boards.
