In the picure of the kid sliding into the bag, the second one, he is looking to his left out towards right field. So that tells me the ump was in a bad spot to make the call. they should be right behind the bag a ways, maybe in foul territory some. It is hard to see from the angle in the field, especially when it comes to a hand.

I thought the same thing, but usually there are only two in a high school game, and if there are men on, he might not be in the best spot. Normally, he should be visible in the second shot, like you said.

And he had his eyes closed to boot. Good thing I didn't have a real vested interest in the game. But that ump wasted absolutely no time getting off the field when the final catch was made. I mean, he was moving....
