Well, the Fuji Finepix dSLRs are based on Nikon models and have many of the same advantages and disadvantages. The older S3 was based on the N80 (same as what the Nikon D70 is based on) and the new S5 will be based on the D200.

That means the S3 has a noticable shutter lag and CAM900 focusing system. Usable for sports, if not the best choice. The S5 has CAM1000 giving it an improved AF system for sports and probably more FPS (I don't think the S5 is available yet).

The reason people say a D200 or D70 are not good for sports is, when compared to a D2h or D2x, there is no comparison. The D2 series has shorter shutter lag, faster FPS and much faster and more accurate AF system.

Everything is relative - I spent many years shooting sports on film without AF - compared to shooting sports with a FM2n and MD12 motordrive, even the D70 is a nice upgrade.

Cheers,
Ken

the fuji S3 and soon to be release S5 has 2 DR modes. standard DR give a 2.5fps in the S3 and 3fps in the S5. in wide Dr mode it yeailds 1.4fps fir S3 and 1.5 fps for the S5. you are not gonna get a lot of quick fast shots at those speeds.

with practice and experience you can do a decent job with one.
