Tulsa Classic 2012 Horse Show

Horse shows run incredibly long days from 7:30 - 8:00 in the morning to sometimes 9:00 - 10:00 at night 4 or 5 days in a row. You really have to love photographing horses to work a couple of weeks with sleep deprivation and complimentary motel contenental breakfasts.

Nice set, #1 seems a bit hot for a grey, but I bet a brown/black was about right?

You're right. It was a touch hot for this gray which was a nearly white flea bitten. The bays looked much better as did the dapple grays.

This is a situation we run into with mounted lights. There is unavoidably a hot spot somewhere. The light from this fixture was lighting another jump, maybe two. Some f-stop adjusting can be done between jumps. We measure for the most popular colors then we'll get thrown a curve with a white or black. Some of the jumps are situated so that the horse can be a couple of feet nearer or further from the flash than expected, if he crosses the fence at an edge rather than the center. Of course, changing the f-stop, grabbing and locking the focus and composing the shots in a matter of seconds for hours upon hours a day does come with the risk that a thumb could turn the wheel two clicks left, instead of two right and by time you see the f-stop in the viewfinder it's too late to change it so you just fire off the shot anyway.

Yep, and that is what all those fun photoshop type programs are for! Might be able to burn him down a touch and have it be just fine.

I appologise Steve, didn't mean to tick you off. I over flashed a grey this weekend, and was able to bring it back more than i thought.. so I was really making fun of myself.
