Portrait of a Mountain Biker - PhotoCamel

Not sure if this should go in Portraits or Sports?

I took this shot by duck taping my monopod to the crossbar of the bike. I then set the camera at it's widest setting, used shutter priority to set 1/3s and popped up the flash to add some punch using rear curtain sync. Fired the camera using a remote and timer function.

The background is completely unfabricated and is as a result of the motion of the bike and the length of shutter speed. It took a couple of hour long sessions to get one where all the elements of the rider expression, background and sharpness was acceptable.

Hope you like it. I got through a lot of tape making this shot and nearly lost the camera in the process!

You want to know what's funnier, none of the local insurance companies want to insure my photography equipment.. So my gear is not even insured.. **SQUASH under the mountain bike wheels**

Try Bogen super-clamps; while I've not used these myself, I hear they'll hold anything.

Of course, I'd still prefer to hang onto my 1Ds Mk. II if I had one, LOL
