Default Minolta AF 75-300 D lens

Have any of the photographers out there had any experience with the above lens, if so would you recomend owning one in place of the sony 75 / 300 kit lens. Regards Gerry.

Can you be more specific about the Minolta lens vs the Sony. I have a Minolta 75-300 and I believe the Sony is pretty much the same lens. I have this lens: Minolta*AF 75-300 F4.5-5.6 D*2684-910, 2684-960 lens for Sony Alpha - Minolta camera mount

I have no experience with the Sony, but I think it is basically the same lens. My copy does fairly well in good light. Autofocus is a bit slow and it does get soft at 300 mm. On long shots in poor light there is some purple fringe CA. IT does a reasonable, if not spectacular, job as a macro. The biggest advantage is the price. A good used one is fairly cheap, around $100 US. I managed to pick up mine for $36 when I found it in the back of a display case at a big box store after Minolta stopped making cameras. I use mine as the second string lens when hiking or in otherwise not critical shots.

I own the minolta 75-300d its better than the sigma 70-300dg and the awfull tamron 70-300 in the sub 150 PRICE RANGE , it needs stopping down to arouns f8-10 to be sharp , but its better than the sigma and tamron by far.But its not as good as a 400 sigma or a g lens lol .Igot mine to to sell on as i already had the sigma 70-300dg macro and was ok with that, but when i used the minolta i realised it was sharper didnt hunt as much as my sigma and it was alot lighter, and its also the same as the current sony 75-300mm like alot of sony glass its rebadged minolta kit .So the answer to your question yes if your on a budget buy one over the other 2 the sigma and tamron arnt very good at all , croab on the tamron is shocking ,the minolta is a good len,s or get a beercan if you can find one cheap enough .i got mine for 30 and im happy with it to the point of not buying anything to replace it .
