Any experiences with shooting with any of these? I've been thinking of upgrading at least to a G lens for my wildlife photography hobby. Since it is quite an expense, I would like to make sure that the quality is what they say it is.

The Sony Zeiss lenses are short in focal length (16-35mm, 24-70mm, 85mm, and 135mm)and the ones with the longest reach do not have SSM focusing. It is hard to imagine that they would be more suitable for you than the 70-200mm 2.8 or the 70-400 G.
What kind of wildlife do you want to shoot? |

Hi JST1,
Yeah, I kind of came to the same conclusion after looking at the focal lengths offered with the Zeiss lenses. I spend a lot of time going to zoos as one option, but I think I would like to get out & capture animals in their natural environment. I think the 70-400 is the better option. |

If I had the $$ I would take the 70-400 in a heartbeat. This lens has been getting good reviews and should very well for you.

If you have to make a savings choice after that fine deal you will get, you could drop down to the 70 -300G. It's on par with the 400, it just doesn't have the reach. I love mine. For everyday shooting at the zoos and stuff you'd love the CZ 16 -80. The CZ 24-70 is pretty much the same animal, but is built a lot better and is 2.8(and did I say very sharp, heavy, and expensive)!

I am lucky enough to have a 2 G lenses - the 70200G and the 70300G.
The 70200G is an absolutely awesome piece of kit from IQ to AF to build quality to the constant 2.8 aperture. I can't say enough good about this lens. The 70300G has excellent IQ but has a variable aperture of 4.5-5.6 so good light is a must. The build quality is very good but not up to the 70200G. The AF is good but not stellar. If you can swing a G or CZ I don't think you will be disappointed. The pain in your wallet goes away after a little while ![]() __________________
