Default Zoar, Ohio - Civil War Reenactment

If you were planning on attending and printed off a schedule of events for Saturday, 09/19 - you may want to double-check it - it changed as of 09/10. Originally, the time the camp opens to the public was 9:00am, now it's been changed to 8:00am. The morning parade has now been moved to 8:30am.

Since it's going to take me 2 hours (or more) to get there, I may now have to miss some of the opening events!

NEW SCHEDULE

I'm all packed and ready to go!! Note the Sony neckstrap attached to the outside - I hate to wear neckstraps, but I still wanted to flash some Sony "colors".

Dang Rob I feel so under packed!!! Looks like you will be good for anything that comes your way, I am going to go over just not sure what time, only like 45 min. drive for me, but high school football is a hour away tonight, and I will need to get photos up on web radio page. Hope we can cross paths, I will be the other guy with the Sony A700 LOL. I am bringing my Tokina 80-400 AT-X Pro lens, hope the sun is out! the Tamron 200mm f/2.8 and the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and the Minolta 50mm f/1.7

Hope to see you there Sean! There may also be a few folks from Dyxum there, too - could turn into a whole Minolta/Sony party!

I'm back from Zoar and I had a great time! Couldn't ask for better weather - well. . .a cloud here and there would have been nice.

Looked for other Sony/Minolta shooters and couldn't find a single one - C/N shooters were crawling out of the woodwork!! I've got over 600 images to go through before I post anything - but I will post something soon.

Hey Bob, I just got back from Zoar myself, we didnt go over till just after 1 P.M. then stayed in there and in the area, went back for the night battle and artillary display...FREAKIN' awesome!! but no photos of it, no lights, heavy smoke, and ground fog rolling in couldn't see anyhthing, and the dew was settling in also. Shot about 300 pics of the daytime battle. did see a few Sony P&S cameras, and a Alpha 300, and I think one of the newer models from a distance. I saw a guy i thought was you through the view finder at 400mm! I couldn't find the person again though! Be cool to see our shots and figure out how close we were to each other!

Was the guy you saw loaded down with gear? If so - that was me! I ended up using only two lenses the entire time I was there - my 28-135 as my walk-around and my 100-300/4 (plus 1.5x TC) for the battle. Lugged almost 30 pounds of gear for nothing, but I was prepared for anything! At least I got some exercise!

I loaded my bag full also, only used Tokina 80-400mm for the battle, Tamron 17-50mm for walk about, and monopod! I didnt take any gear into the night artillary fire, thought about trying to Minolta 50mm f/1.7 but as we were very close we were in lots of smoke, and the haevy dew and fog settled in wouldn't have wanted camera out in that. Anyway here comes some photos

A few more, if you haven't been to one of these and have the chance go check it out, it was a blast. Union won on Saturday, a different battle set up on Sunday and the Confederates win.

Nice shots! You were obviously much closer than I was!

Tokina 80-400mm AT-X pro, has the reach but does get soft, and even with monopod got a bit of camera shake, not bad for the distance, also LOTS of cropping in post production, I know some people think thats like cheating!
