Hi,

To answer your questions:-
Yep, Sony has a proprietary hot shoe :-( - caught me out too
You need an up-to-date version of Lightroom - v4- to read a57 RAW

and A57 does not support tethering.

Regards
Neil

So now I'm trying to tether the sony a57 through lightroom 3 and it doesn't even see the camera, do you know if lightroom 4 reads sony's raw files and can I tether. Sometimes I do little events where I set up a booth and take pictures and print on the spot, I would love to use this camera if I could. Thanks for any help you may be able to give.
Not having A A57 or lightroom but my raw files are being recognised by PSE 4 and 9 so maybe you need a plug in . when i have to do paid portraits i'll always take a portable dvd player with me (one with a tv in ) and i can show images on that "monitor" and then offcourse i have my laptop and Canon photoprinter (portable) with me

i can use the cardreader in the printer or have my ussual card reader with me

Do you know if the a65 or the a77 supports tethering, also thanks for the help with the raw files I guess I just have to buy lightroom 4. as far as tethering goes I could always just use my 5D, the reason I bought this camera is because I was curious about sony cameras hmmm I wonder if I can get an adapter so I can use my L glass with this camera now that would be nice. Thanks again for the help.

The A57 is pretty new so it's likely LR shipped before the A57. There is likely an ACR update or will be soon that includes the A57.

Sadly none of Sony SLT cameras currently support tethering which is a real shame since IMO an live-view camera would be perfect for tethering. You could try the eye-fi wireless cards for downloading the pictures.

SONY has a software to set up your camera parameter from your pc and shoot via the usb cable. From the top of my head, maybe it's IDC but I'm not sure, cause I never used my camera with this configuration although there is an obvious interest for hdr photography.Otherwise, check the SONY camera forum. Each raw is proprietary to a brand name and sometimes different for different models of the same company.Software guys manage to get the info from the builders so that they can generate a real picture from a raw,but the interpretations are slightly different from one software to the other color wise and noise wise.

It is my understanding that the tethering software only works for the A700, A900 and A850. There is no tethering support for the SLT cameras - this includes Sony's own software as well as 3rd party. A really bad decision from Sony IMO considering the live-view SLT cameras would be just about perfect for tethering.

It is my understanding that the eye-fi only allows you to offload the photos wirelessly. Are you saying that it provides camera control too (since true tethering is both)?
