Great shots. The Tamron 70-200/2.8 looks like a winner! I was seriously considering the Tamron but they were out of stock when we visited B&H. My wife surprised me when she "OK we'll take the Sony".

How do you find the auto focusing speed/accuracy?

Its fast enough to get some decent Lacrosse and Rugby shots. Since I have never used a "G" lens with the SSM vs the standard screw drive focusing on my A100's I cannot comment on the focusing speed. The $800+ saved and good reviews was enough to knock the Sony out of contention. I cannot see my wife saying something like "ok you deserve a Zeiss".

I think the Tamron 70-200/2.8 is about the best deal going at the moment. I have and A100 and A700. The A700 has much faster/better AF than the A100 so I would expect you to get even better performance if you ever upgrade.

I would likely own the Tamron vs the Sony if B&H had it in stock when we visited. I don't think my wife got me the Sony because I deserved it. I think she was just shutting me up about getting a 70-200/2.8. Apparently she though my silence was worth an extra $800 .

I keep itching to upgrade to a A700 but with the model being 18 months old I keep thinking that they are going to come out with an new one any day now. The 700 would serve me fine for the sports shooting, but I'm second photog for my son's GF wedding buisness. She has a Canon 5D II's. If I had a camera that could shoot short video she could concentrate on still and video of main table and I could keep doing still and videos of guests.

Well as we seem to have developed a mini sports theme, here are a few more taken last week with the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 on A700. I was playing around with color saturation and hue, and got maybe a bit to intense LOL but thats me not the lens.
I have always wondered with all the technology why there isn't a menu option so that a leittle message pops up in the viewfinder and says ARE YOU SURE? after you make adjustments and settings, sorry starting to ramble need to go to bed.

I always reduce the file size in post to about 800px on the long end. BTW - nice shots!

Here's the last thing I shot: I shot this in my backyard - it's a whole Japanese themed image.

It's a concrete Japanese pagoda-like lawn ornament, surrounded by shoots of Japanese blood grass (that haven't turned red yet) and I shot it through the branches of a Japanese maple tree to frame it.

I didn't like the original color version, but converting it to B&W gave it a completely different look.

Sorry to double post, but I'm impressed with the sharpness of that Tamron and what you have captured with it. Those Rugby pics are very impressive also. I may have to ship out the old Sigma EX for one of those.

Rugby season is over but, I have been shooting bike races with my Tamron 70-200/2.8. If I make enough in sales I just may get the Sony 70-200G. Not because its any sharper, but the focus limiter will cut down on the hunting before it locks in.

I have been really impressed with the Tamron 70-200 on the ALpha mount. I am not sure on an A100 though it is just to slow to focus. It's funny that Nikon and Canon with motor version is actually a lot slower than it is on the SOny but the motor on the new ALphas are 70 percent faster than the 5/7D A100.
I still want to get my hands on a 70-400G or the soon to be super telephoto probably a 400 or 500.

Currently I have a 200 with a grip, 11 - 18 mm zoom, 18 to 55 mm zoom, 75 to 300 mm zoom, 100mm 2.8 macro, 58 flash, couple of Manfrotto tripods, wired remote release and a bag of other bits and pieces. All new this spring.

I am going to upgrade to a 900, a couple of fast Zeiss lenses, etc. this winter. I will use the 200 as a spare body.

The vast majority of my stuff is in the Black and White area.

None of it is right out of the camera, all of it has been worked in Photoshop.

I got a Cannon 9500 printer and will get into printing seriously once the weather gets cold.

My daughter is moving out of the house first of September so I am going to take her room and make it into my "digital darkroom".

Maybe hold on a bit before the a900 and see what all the buzz is about maybe baby full frame model, a upgrade for the 700 etc. could save some money over the 900. Do you shoot RAW and then convert into a B/W image in photshop?

Ya, always RAW. Space is not an issue for me. And everything I do goes through PhotoShop first.

I will see what is available and the upgrade to the 700 is a possibility.
