This forum doesn't seem to get the same amount of activity as some of the others, so I thought I'd pose this question to Sony DLR owners/users:
What is your favorite lens (or lenses) that you currently use on your Sony DSLR? For me, my #1 favorite lens is the old 1st generation Minolta 28-135mm. This lens always seems to be the one attached to my camera and the one I tend to use more than any other. It's very sharp and has a "built like a tank" feel that I really like (without being overly heavy). Works great as a portrait lens and the macro function at the 28mm length is actually pretty useful - which more than makes up for the 6' close focusing distance of the lens (the len's one major fault IMO). Good idea for a topic. My favorite lens is probably my KM 28-75/2.8 since it is fast and has a pretty usable range (if a little long on APS-C). I just picked up the 70-200/2.8G and that is easily the best lens I own. It will certainly be my favorite lens for soccer, etc.

I'm still loving my beercan. It works great on my A700. I just ordered the CZ16-80 so it might become my new favorite.

I can't comment on the CZ16-80 but I have read some great reviews of it. It seemed to have some build quality issues when it first came out but they seem to have sorted it out. Good luck and let us know how you like it! |

Beercan for me. Love that thing, and won't ever sell it. Also really like the old 50mm/1.7. My walk around lens is the Sony 18-250, simply because of the range. I prefer the other two lenses though.

Exploring the benefits of prime lenses. Therefore, my favorite lens right now is the ZA 135mm 1.8. I also have the 85,mm 1.4 and find it excellent as well.
Having been a zoom boy all these years makes it hard to deal with the changing of lenses in the field. Going to Arizona this weekend and will do some lens changing. Let's hope for soft breezes and no dust. One pic from the 135mm ![]() |

I'm jealous no longer! I happened to pick up a beercan for a price so incredible that I couldn't pass it up! I should have never sold my last one - even though having both a 70-210mm and an 80-200mm is somewhat redundant - I like having the choice of the two. When I need the speed of the 80-200/2.8 I have it, but the beercan is so much lighter than that monster.
Now I'm happy and feel that my lens collection is complete once more! ![]() Bob S. |

So, yesterday while I was out on a customer visit my CZ 16-80 was delivered at home. At just about the same time that the CZ was being delivered to my door I found myself parked in front of a Circuit City. On a whim I decided to go in and see if there were any liquidation bargains to be had. The cameras were only 10% off and the only Sony lens on display was the 18-70 kit lens.
However, there were an awful lot of orange boxes in the case below the display so I decided to check them out to see if there was anything interesting there. To my suprise there were about 4 70-300G boxes there with no visible price. Not expecting any significant discount I asked the salesperson to look up the price for me. He came back with a price of $559! Just way too good a deal to pass up. So, in a matter of a few very expensive minutes I had the 2 lens kit I've been hoping for. Now I'm going to have to sell my 100-300 APO because I can't part with the beercan and 3 lenses covering the range is just too many. And also because my wife is going to kill me ![]() |

I think my favorite lens is my KM 28-75mm f2.8. I have the Sony 18-250 and like Tina said, it is a great walk around lens. I have mainly used the KM for concerts in low light, but this holiday season, I stuck it on and took a fair amount of pictures. For the most part, I was very pleased with the results. Here is an example.

Yes, the KM 28-75/2.8 is a gem. I'm keeping mine even though I just got the CZ16-80. I wanted the extra range at the wide end but the constant 2.8 is reason alone to keep the KM. Also, from what I've read and seen it performs quite well on the A900.

I would have to say my favorite is my KM 50mm 1.7 and then my Tamron 28-75mm 2.8. I also love the bokeh that my beercan produces, but I'm currently saving for the sony 70-200 G lens. I would love to have the 85, 135 prime lenses as well.

My favorite has become the 24-70 za. It weighs almost as much as my 70-200 but I love the colors and sharpness of that lens even wide open.
