I'm liking it. I keep wanting to extend lens where my G9 zoom is. Hard to get Memory out, if you have fat fingers. Manual focus is good. Auto is quick. Fun to play with.

Don't forget that all the older Minolta AF lenses will also work on this camera - not just Sony. If ever you feel the need to add more lenses, you should have a pretty good selection to choose from!

Not sure what your budget is for a macro, but you may find a good deal on a lens that is lovingly referred to as the "Plastic Fantastic". This is a 100mm/3.5 macro lens that is made by several companies (Phoenix, Vivitar, Cosina, etc.) that has received surprisingly good reviews. Check out the lens section at www.dyxum.com for reviews.

It is an extremely lightweight lens with a plastic mount (hence the Plastic Fantastic moniker) and it will achieve a 1:2 macro without the adapter (1:1 with the adapter). I purchased one last year for the Minolta MD system that I own and thoroughly enjoyed the shots I got with it. It used to be much cheaper, but now that folks know about it - the price has risen lately.

You can find them on eBay starting at roughly $125.00, but that's about 1/2 the price of a Minolta 50mm/2.8 macro lens - not to mention the 100mm/2.8 macros from both Minolta and Sony.

Here are some shots I found posted over at Dyxum: http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11423

If you can swing it I have heard nothing but praise for the Minolta/Sony 100/2.8 macro. Check out some of the samples on pbase.com and dyxum.com.

Very nice choice!

The Sigma 105mm macro was my first true macro lens and I loved it. Once I got the Minolta 100mm macro, I sold it - but I still have plenty of the pics that I took with that terrific lens. I'm sure you will love using it!
