in Europe. I just returned from and extended photo trip to Europe and was surprised as to the number of Sony digital SLR camera I saw...more than Canon and Nikon cameras. Sony has great sensors and pedigree (Minolta). In the downsize their assortment of lenses is limited and they are "expensive."

Just came back from europe and have to agree. Sony Alphas are indeed everywhere, almost every other person I saw with a DSLR style camera had one of those.
I think one of the reasons is that they are advertised rather heavily by the local camera and electronic shops. |

Why aren't we seeing any pictures from the Alpha if they're so popular?

Just to add. I have seen a few people around the football field with Alpha's as well. The 300 and 700. They are serious about what they are doing. I don't know why some people look down on the Sony's. They are getting just as popular as the cannons and put out just as nice of images. |

Ront those are great shots! I like my Sony camera. It's not an Alpha but it has some good aspects. I'm having a tough time deciding on either a Nikon or the Alpha.

Are you in a hurry for a DSLR? If you had to pull the trigger today I would say Nikon/Canon would be the way to go. But if you can wait a few months I expect Sony to be showing at least one new body (FF flagship) and some lenses and the gap will likely shrink between Sony and Nikon/Canon.

Then again as the old saying goes "No one ever got fired for choosing IBM". Right now Nikon/Canon are the IBM of the DSLR world . |
