Default Review: Sony Alpha DSLR-A200

I just got this camera last friday, It is indeed my 1st ever camera. I was using my parents Canon PowerShot a710 IS. All I can say is "WOW". There was such a significant difference between quality and features. The camera is light weight, compact and very easy to use. Lots of features for each button, kind of a downside for me because I get confused easily. Another downside to the camera I believe is that it doesn't have a Live View screen. The camera has an anti-shake facility built into it instead of buying the lens' with it. The image quality is just phenomenal. Maby this is nothing new to you guys that have DSLR's already but ill tell you what it is for me.

I highly recommend this camera to any beginner such as myself.

Hi Kris,

I just got my A200 two weeks ago. I think it is a great entry level camera, but even then it is a big learning curve for me. My first SLR. I am now busy learning all about exposures and lenses, I'm gonna master this if it's the last thing I do.

On another note, I am surprised at the camera 'snobbery' that is subtle but existant. Each to their own, and some of us don't care, we just want to enjoy. But on the same note, I am proud of my new purchase and find it a bit disconcerting to think I might have bought a dud! Well, in other people's opinion.

I sort of wish the Sony part of this forum was more active, bring Sony to the front sort of thing.

Toni

Toni, Sony is pretty new to the dSLR market, but I think that we will be hearing more from and about them. I have the A700 and I love the camera. I know what you mean by the feeling that you may have gotten an inferior product, but just show them differently by the pictures you take. Learn to use it well. I still have a lot to learn, but I am having a great time all of the time.
It is nice to have another Sony user here! By the way, welcome to the Camel!!

Ron

Congrats. It looks like you have a nice kit there. Half of the fun of the photography hobby IMO is the learning part. Just think how much fun you're going to have

Thanks Ron, it is really nice to be here! But man oh man, have I taken some bad shots lately. All in the learning curve I suppose. And there were one or two good ones amongst them, more by accident than design though.

I have booked in for a couple of lessons, due in October. After that, who knows, I may even be brave enough to show you guys some of my images........

Congrats on your purchases. I have a Sony point and shoot which I love. I also have had a couple of DSLRS which I am very impressed with also.
Kris: YOu will learn to love looking thru the view finder verses the live view. It gives you so much more anti shake control because it is pressed against you head. Sounds weird but it is true. Also it is so much better to have buttons that do all kinds of things on the outside of the camera rather than having to look thru menu's to find stuff.
Toni: Don't be afraid of posting images , everyone has to start somewhere and while there is some snobbery here at times we are all here to learn.
