Sony Alpha & older Minolta lens compatibility issue? - PhotoCamel

I am thinking of buying a Sony Alpha for my old man as a surprise gift for his birthday. He has been using the film Minolta for quite a while and has a few AF lenses.

Could anybody shed any light on the compatibility issues in respect of older Minolta (not even K-M) lenses?

Hi Rumpole.

I have some older AF lenses (would you believe one is 18 years young?) and the work just fine on my Alpha 100.

Some older Sigma AF that can't be rechipped won't work.

Otherwise all Minolta, Tokina, Tamron, fairly recent Sigma will work just fine.

I am in the same position. The Sony official website has a compatibility list for minoltas old lenses. Just about all of them are compatible.
