Default Anyone shoot with a A57?

I am a few months away from upgrading and I am taking a hard look at the A57. If I move away from Nikon, this seems to be the camera I would do it with.

I guess this question can be answered by A35 - A77 shooters since it deals with the Translucent Mirror.

Let me see if I have this correct... in 3 or 6 fps mode, the mirror flops? In 10 or 12 fps mode the mirror stays still? Now, shooting through the mirror, is there any problem with losing 1 or 2 stops of light?

Now, since there is some type of image stabilization in the camera, would the IS in the Sigma 70 - 200 f2.8 even need to be used? Would the Tamron version without IS be a wiser choice?

The mirror in all of Sony's SLT cameras NEVER move. That's the whole point of the technology. This allows for continuous phase detect autofocus (the fastest type of AF) while shooting video, while using live view or when taking action shots in high speed busts. This is something that it's Canon and Nikon counterparts cannot do. The trade off for this is the mandatory use of an electronic viewfinder as opposed to an optical viewfinder.

Also, the light lost is about 1/2 stop, not 1 or 2 stops. One stop would be the loss 1/2 the light entering the camera.

Thanks Lonnie. Another question then. Can you follow the action through the EVF through any of the multi-shot modes or does it just go black during shooting?

Here's a demo for the A77...

Video Player
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

As you can see, it blinks initially, but then the EVF stays illuminated. The Cannon and Nikon version HAVE TO black out because the mirror flips up and you can't see thru the viewfinder with the mirror raised.

Nice review. The video part of it seems awesome. Hi ISO looks very reasonable in the noise dept. I think I am sold on it really. Just got to wait until I have the money for the body and lens and then I will order it.

I have the predecessor to the A57 the A55 and use it nearly daily. I use it for my sport and BIF work. because the mirror does not move and has separate phase detect focus sensor system it tracks amazingly well and fast .

I also have the a580 and the A99 on preorder, You will be giving up nothing by shooting Sony
